  1. Oh, this is a tough question. I love reading, the feeling of sitting somewhere with a book, just escaping the world for a while.. I do read for escapism, sometimes I dislike the world around me so much I need to be somewhere else.

But also reading is comfort. Takes me back to those days when I was a kid and a book was a whole new world for me, absorbed me totally, unfortunately I rarely have those reads anymore, always something getting in the way.

I love getting to know new places, new people. I often feel I have made new friends when reading a new book, and in real life I can't travel much due to funds and time, so I love getting around in my books... plus since I read fantasy, there's no way I could go to those places in real life.

But for me mostly, reading is getting away from it all. Many bad things have happened in my life the last few years.. and books help me with that.

Sometimes I do read to learn more, but generally my "fun" books tempt me to read more.:)

  2. ^That is one book that would automatically classify you as uncool in my opinion. Not just uncool, but worse.

Mind you, am not trying to offend anyone here, so please don't take offence by what I say..

My views on this are so complicated that half the time I don't know what I think about it, and I know forums often are not fond of the religion discussion, so I will not elaborate, let's just say I dislike organized religion, and Christianity in particular.

Unless you're reading it as fiction/for fun, have heard it's quite a story then hee hee. :)

  3. ^wow, you just agreed on a whole lot of what I said.:lol:

And true, there's beauty in art too, or at least some forms of art. Others are ugly. But some things in nature can be ugly too, so I guess it's only fair.

But art maybe is one of the few things that make mankind worthwile.

And haven't read The End Of Mr. Y, though I saw it around here on the forum somewhere, and thought it might be worth a read.. one of many books I must add you guys have pointed me to. Love this forum. :D

  4. You put the same series books in the same boxes? Wow, when I have gotten to the point where I realize I have to box up books, I don't care where they are.

And DVDs by alphabet? Would only do that if I had a very lot of DVDs... but I have maybe 1/4th as much DVDs as books. Am I saying that right? 4 times more books. :D

  5. Normally I would agree with you one hundred percent BookJumper, but the simple fact is that I've never really understood the public's fascination with vampirism or hauntings.

I agree with you on hauntings, that's more my mom's thing.. however I have loved anything vampiry since I can remember.. for longer than 15 years now that has to be, and I think I can remember me reading some vamp stuff in junior school, so that's like.. 20 years ago. Loved it then. So I am kinda fed up with all the popular vampire books out there, also cause every author seems to have his or her own take on vampires, what they're like, what they can stand, how they become vampires. Pff. :D

  6. I love fantasy.. always have and always will. However, if you ask me why.. that's hard to say. I just do.

Part of it is, that I hate the world we live in. It's got its perks, don't get me wrong. But it's a cold, unimaginative, ugly place to live in most of the time. All beauty comes from nature. And humankind.. well I don't like them. Humans, in my opinions, are little more than apes, monkeys even, animals who think themselves better, more developed and more evolved. Ridiculous. Which possibly is why I love apocalyptic stuff so much, part of me feels we deserve to be exterminated. :)

So, anything that gives me more than there is in daily life, is good reading for me. Most of the books I read are something that is fantasy, sci-fi, horror, just.. something more. Which is what I always have the feeling I am looking for. More. Unfortunately. :D It's not that I hate life, or hate my life.. just am never satisfied with it.

So yeah, fantasy for me, is more colorful, exciting and romantic than normal. I'm always disappointed in people...

Also, I have always been fascinated with myths, legends and supernatural stuff (even if I don't really believe in the last, then again, I don't believe in the other stuff either).

I love science too, that's why I love sci-fi. I'd give a lot to be able to time travel and see mankind and other planets in the future.. But when sci-fi literature has got too much technology stuff in it, it's not for me.. it's not what's important to me.

Perfect for me, is a mix between sci-fi and fantasy.. like the Dragonriders of Pern series, Anne McCaffrey, or alternate reality stuff. Like Kushiel's Dart (Jacqueline Carey).

Pff. I could write a bookwork about this. Apart from that I can't write that well. :) Just let me say I adore fantasy.:lol:

  7. ^that's why, when it's time for christmas or my birthday, and people ask me what I want and I say to them books, that I always give them a list of books I'd like, usually a long list so they can pick and choose, but I give them a list and tell them to please shop from that or buy a gift card, cause then I might not get double books. :D Maybe less fun, but saves hassle.

  8. My OCD is kicking in; those Lord of the Rings DVDs and books aren't in the correct order! :D

Haha.. well honestly sometimes I care about that, sometimes I don't. This bookshelf is a temporary thing so to speak, since I currently still like with my mom, when I finish university, I'll get a place of my own (can't afford now :) ) and then I'll probably put everything in right order.. however now, I don't really care. I am not that OCD about my books etc.

  9. Nope, never done that, then again I don't really have that many books. A little over a hundred I think, mainly due to limited funds, let call it that. ;) I do have multiple copies of books, but that's when I originally buy a book in dutch, then decided later english is better and buy it in english. But nothing like having 6 copies of the same book.:roll:

  10. OH and I got some more.. ;)

    Nero Bellum

    Andreas Bergh (Whiplasher Bernadotte)

    the Dro

    Brian Molko

All musicians, from my fav bands, who definitely know how to have a good time. That would make for an interesting night.

  11. Well I never really compared the madness etc in SK's books with that of Lovecraft.. in SK's book there's some of people going mad by the things they see, but then again a lot of the people in his books deal with the evil they face.. whereas in Lovecraft's stories, people go mad, absolutely, totaly insane. They don't deal, they find themselves back sometimes, but they never really face evil and come out the hero. Or, you know, most of the time. I can't say I have read all stories yet ofcourse, and not even all I have in my books. But their minds are destroyed, they never come out clean so to speak. And in King's works, they manage to get over the madness (if it even is there), some even hide it away, flee from it like it never happened, but few are destroyed (ofcourse there are some, like the boy in It, can't recall his name, the one who's hair turned white.. (mind you, I am recalling the film most, has been too long since I read the book) but his mind is destroyed... ).

Anyway, to me it never seemed the same.

  12. Wow, I would have never compared SK to H.P. Lovecraft. Guess if you say it like that, it sort of makes sense. I love both authors, but SK for me, is more the author I used to like best, my tastes have changed to the point where I think a lot of his books are boring. Ten years ago, I loved his work, pretty much all of it. Now, I barely read it anymore, not because I think it's bad.. but because now I love reading other authors, say, H.P. Lovecraft.

  13. Sure. I've read several books in one sitting. Give me a day off, a not too difficult book that I'm enjoying and that's not over say, 400 pages long. Then I might finish it in one sitting, if I don't have to do a lot else that day. I finished a lot of Laurell Hamilton's books that way, they're easy reading. Several Harry Potter books too, the last book took me two sittings, 8 hours, so could have been done in one actually, but I took some time to sleep.

But yeah, am a fast reader so I can do this.. but these days I have too much other stuff on my hands, school, work, and a lot of helping mom out around the house and taking care of dogs etc, so I don't have that much time to read. ;)

  14. Sometimes yes, sometimes no. When I put it down with the thought I will read it another time, I usually do, even if it takes years. Sometimes I find that I am just not in the right mood for a certain book and that I'd rather read another, then it's pointless to keep struggling through the first one. Maybe, second time around, I will finish it quickly.. so yes, then I do finish them another time.

There are also books I don't finish.. but then usually when I quit reading, I know it's the end for that book.. :D Then it doesn't appeal to me, or it just doesn't read well.:)
