I have just spoken to my dad, and he has remembered some more information. The "heroine" of the book comes from an elite family, she may be a princess or something. The stone is embedded in her hand. She is kidnapped at a ceremony, something like a Bat Mitzvah or birthday. She is taken away by ship where she is imprisoned underground on an island. She discovers lots of tunnels and upon investigating them finds there is one going out to see. The stone had been removed from her hand at some point. Cheers guys:D

I'm afraid I don't know very much about this book I'm looking for. All I know is that my father was reading it in an airport YEARS ago and foolishly left it behind. I thought it would be nice to try and find out the title. All I know is that the heroine of the piece has a stone embedded in the palm of her hand and this stone emits light, or glows. I'm guessing it is a fantasy. And I am sorry I don't have any more information. But if anyone out there in Book Club land can help, I'd be so very grateful. Thank you in advance:D
