I'm actually pretty excited about the summer Olympics. Mainly because they're being held in London and I just KNOW London will do it up right! So, whose going to the Olympics? Anybody working or volunteering? How excited are you guys?!

Tell them to give you all their pertinent information and you'll run it by your lawyer and the police and then you'll decide from there. That should shut them up.

I'd suggest that you inform them that you will be involving the police as what they are doing is fraud and it may be international. Tell them that you will be recording all conversations with them and handing them over to the authorities who will be investigating their business. Nothing stops a crook quicker than police involvement.

Ronald, there was nothing for him to be guilty about. He had a bag of candy and an ice tea on his person. He was in a place he had a right to be in mistakenly thinking he was safe in his own person. There was no crime committed other than what was done to him. A paranoid man followed an unarmed kid and shot him in cold blood. There is no assumption that he MIGHT have committed a crime or was THINKING about committing a crime or was in the PROCESS of committing a crime. He was targeted for being a Black male.

Funny you should say that. We are always being accused of "playing the race card." What people fail to realize is that we need to have the same deck of playing cards as everyone else. Any ethnic group that experiences racism has to play the card to effect a change. Better still, don't play games. Treat people the way you want to be treated.

You are so correct. Had Martin lived and Zimmerman died, you can bet your bottom dollar that he would have been frisked and jailed whether he felt he were in danger or not. That law is discriminatory all the way around.

There are many issues about this tragic situation. From the Black community its the racial aspect. This is not a "perceived" feeling but what is known. He called him an "effing coon." In the US when a white child is missing its all over the newspapers and media. We bring up the dead child from 15 years ago BUT we do not mention the Black child that has also disappeared. When people see our Black males everyone goes up in arms, they feel threatened. When one dies the automatic response is "he must have been a drug dealer or a gang banger." This is the crux of what is going on now. A young Black male minding his business was accosted while being Black and being in a place where Zimmerman (white or Hispanic) felt he had no right to be because of his skin color. I wont go on anymore just yet because I don't to be more angry than I am. It could have been my son. Dredlocks or clean cut doesnt make a difference here. Anger from the community is directed at Zimmerman (who is in hiding) and the police officers who let the community down. The best thing that has come out of this is that we are seeing more unity across the color lines. Whites, Latinos, Native Americans, Asians are all up in arms about this! If this needs to be moved to the debate forum I understand. Maybe you could just leave the links.

Racial tension is about to increase substantially in the United States. It all surrounds a young Black male visiting his father in future mother in law in a gated community. The 17 year old went to a convenience store to buy candy and ice tea. He is being watched by the self proclaimed "neighborhood watch" captain named George Zimmerman. The individual calls the police and proceeds to follow the boy because he looked "suspicious." He was told by dispatch to not follow the young man. Zimmerman disregarded and proceeded on his "patrol." The young man was aware that he was being followed and told his girlfriend so (he was talking to her on his cell phone) She told him to run but the boy was afraid that if he ran, Zimmerman would chase him. Zimmerman approached him, fought him and then killed him. His defense is that he felt "threatened." The boy had Skittles (candy) and an ice tea. Neighbors heard the commotion and called the police. They told them that they heard what sounded as a young kid screaming for help, then they heard shots fired. There was only silence. "Stand your ground" laws in several of our states allow for an individual to kill another when they feel threatened. This happened in Sanford, Florida (near Disneyworld). He made racial remarks to dispatch. Now its blown up and people are angry. I am angry. The shooter was never given the required drug/alcohol testing. They just let him go. Now the police chief and the town manager have stepped down. FBI is investigating and it looks to be a long and painful summer. I just started watching it yesterday and I'm now on series 1 episode 7!!! Dame Maggie is just too hysterical! LOL!! I've had it for about 3 years and did the CD versions, then I did the CD and streaming and now I'm just doing the streaming. I love it. I can take it anywhere and I also watch it on my android!

Lovely pic bookworm! You gorgeous godbaby looks as right chunky bit of baby fat! He's almost as big as you are I have the urge to eat his fat little legs! In the south, when we see healthy babies like this we call the legs "hamhocks!" and we just drool all over them. So juicy! Hehehe! He is just so precious sleeping in his godmommy's arms and you look like there is no place else you'd rather be!

It was a lot to swallow. To be bossed around and disrespected by someone you've nursed as an infant and then to be called the "n" word by the person who hugged you and played with you can leave a sour pit in your stomach. Many women of color find it hard to let go of. My mother in law is not one of them.

Thanks for asking VF. School is going better than expected. I did an update in the January thread. My MIL really did have to put up with that kind of stuff and she had a doctor just like that doctor who visitede Cecelia's home when she miscarried. Her shoulders and hips are no good from years of ironing sheets, shirts, napkins and pleats. She had some really good women she enjoyed working for and she had some real pieces of work (to put it mildly) to contend with. Last year one of the families she worked for called her. The man (he once owned a local business) died. His wife was at a loss and their daughter was distraught. Mom was called and I took her there to visit. The daughter actually got up and laid her head on my mil's breast and told her that she missed being cuddled my my mil! My mother in law has such a way about her that you can't meet her without loving her and whites and blacks all want to be included in her family. Even so, she had to use separate facilities and back doors.

I loved the book! The thing that may be throwing some off is that the book is writing by a white writer. She did a marvelous job but there was that "something" missing that was simply from the fact that you truly cannot get that connection because its second hand knowledge. Not to say that this isn't possible but I think, had my mother in law wrote this store (from the maids perspective) it would have been more realistic. My mother in law worked as a domestic, in the south and dealt with a lot of these issues. Her language would have been more fluid and lyrical.

The Twilight Saga. Just on principal

Lets see, I've been a deputy sheriff (police officer). I've been in the Army, I've been an office assistant, store clerk, fast food worker, cafe worker, government employee, day care teacher, I've worked inside a prison as the personal assistant to the president of prison industries (they create jobs within the prisons which the prisoners have to apply for, they work and pay child support and compensation to their victims while creating needed services, these prisoners created hotel and restaurant furniture) I've been a babysitter and lastly, I've worked in our local bookstore. I am now a full-time student working on a double major in English and History. When that is completed I will go on to my graduate studies in Library Sciences. I hope to work as an academic librarian.

One question though. How can she POSSIBLE get hot and sweaty with a "cold blood?" I mean, Edward couldn't keep her warm when she was nearly freezing to death in Eclipse! Warm bloods wanna know!

I get it every year because my grands have upper respiratory issues as well as my preggo daughter. The Boy and I are in school so we are surrounded by germy people who don't wash their hands and sneeze, wheeze and cough over everything. Hubby is out in the elements everyday and subject to colds etc. We've all had the shot and feel better for it there was only a minimum pain from the shot. One year I did the inhaler and it knocked me out. I don't mind being knocked out when I don't have a butt load of papers to do. I don't mind a good "sick" when I have nothing else to do, it gives me a reason to slow down! But we generally do the shot to keep others in our immediate family healthy.
