  1. Happy Birthday NovaLee!:)

  2. Thanks Charm. Sorry I'm a bit late, but Happy 2010!:)

  3. The Agony and the Ecstasy by Irving Stone. A friend of mine gave it to me along with a boxful of used books about 15 years ago. I never got beyond the first page.
  4. Wow. I've only read one: 54 Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss.
  5. Loved that movie too. All the performances were great! I reread Animal farm last year and really enjoyed it too. Great book.
  6. The only classical literature I've read is The Odyssey, but I have enjoyed reading the philosophical works of Seneca, Epictetus, Marcus Aurelius and Epicurus - I find their words quite soothing.
  7. Read 30 pages of My Life in France by Julia Child - loving it so far.
  8. My favorite short novels: Fahrenheit 451 - Ray Bradbury Animal Farm - George Orwell The Stranger - Albert Camus
  9. Read a bit of Empire Falls this afternoon. Started Julie and Julia this week - the reviews aren't great but I'm giving it a go anyway. Also ordered My Life in France by Julia Child - should be in soon.
  10. Read a teensy bit of Empire Falls last night - don't have much time to read this week!
  11. I don't like reading online much - I've read a few books on Gutenberg and other sites but only if I absolutely cannot get my hands on the book! I know these new contraptions (Kindle, Sony Reader etc) are supposed to be easier on the eyes than reading on a computer monitor, but I doubt I'll be buying one soon - I just love having a real book in my hands and on my shelf!
  12. Read a bit of Empire Falls by Richard Russo last night. I'm liking it so far - especially Miles.
  13. I didn't buy much - only 2 books (Julie & Julia and a soup recipe book) and some office supplies. We're always in such a rush in the city that I often don't get everything I want.....like a new wardrobe! :) Hope you have a great time with your friends tonight! :)

  14. I saw Zombieland today - it was gory but really funny.
  15. I had a pretty good day - the sky actually cleared up and there was -gasp- a little bit of sun in the afternoon!=D I saw Zombieland at the movies - it was quite gory but pretty funny! Hope you had a good day too. What are you up to this weekend?

  16. Hi Catwoman, The book you were talking about sounds interesting. :) If you read it, let me know what you think!

  17. Good Morning NovaLee. I know the feeling about everything happening at once... but I'm glad everything's OK :) Yes it's still raining here - it's getting quite soggy out! Time for some indoor fun - I'm heading to Ottawa today for a bit of shopping and a movie!

  18. Hey Catwoman,

I like all kinds of music, but mostly listen to rock, jazz, and classical. Alan Banks seems to have similar tastes. Everytime I spot a reference to a musician\composer\song that I'm unfamiliar with in those books, I get curious and look it up on the net - I've found lots of good music that way!

  19. I'd be interested, but I'm way out in Canada!
