  1. Well done, Virginia!! Seems like the Spring Cleaning Bug has bitten you, too. :D I've been on a mission to clean out my apartment of all the little cluttery things I don't need and have been separating them into "sell" and "total crap" piles. I'm hoping I can get a nice chunk for the sell pile and have a charity come pick up the other one next week. The next job is to clean out the car, which I hate with a passion.

  2. Well done, Onion Budgie! I have to go in on Monday for Iron and Magnesium blood tests because my doc thinks I'm low and that's contributing to my leg/foot pain. I gave up red meat about a month ago and just added it back in to my diet. Kind of bummed because my blood pressure this week was FINALLY 120/65 and it seems like cutting out red meat was the big factor in it going down.

Next week my doc wants me to start a 2 protein shakes a day followed by a pimped out salad routine. Have any of you guys had success with weightloss shakes? I'm researching brands right now (since I'm in the US I doubt we'd have the same brands) and it seems like Herbalife is a good one.

It makes sense you're still feeling sad. A loss of a pet is always hard, especially of a cat or dog, who've been with you for so long :empathy:. I'm so sorry :(.

I hope you can enjoy your dinner and have some fun during Easter .

Thanks Athena <3 I hope you have lots of fun, too!

  4. Happy Easter (or Passover if you're Jewish  ) weekend, everybody! Hope you have fun today! I'll probably be cleaning and watching movies with my much anticipated homemade nachos and sugar free pudding with whipped cream and Oreos dinner. Oh, so traditional  Its my first holiday since my Winny kitty died 3 weeks ago and I am still feeling really sad (I used to be a bit weird with holidays and would spoil him with food and new toys like a mama with a kid, lol) without him so I just want to keep busy and try to have fun.

Unfortunately I didn't get on very well with This Savage Song, despite loving everything else I've read of hers! I think it had more of a YA feel to it. I would say that the Darker Shades series has a slight YA feel to it, if you compare it to some other fantasy titles, but for me that works perfectly. Vicious is a much darker book.. and I'm happy that she's writing a sequel for that one.

Looks like something else I need to go look up.....!

Aw,  l loved This Savage Song (but as you know, I'm a big mg/ya fan so...)

Did you already go to Laini Taylor's signing?

  6. I hope you enjoy it when you get it! I love Veronica Roth's writing style, but there was definitely some hesitation after what she did in Allegiant, lol. I wasn't 100% sure if I could trust her again.

Roshani Chokshi is an incredible writer. She's the sort who paints pictures with her words (she's Indian and her books are full of Indian culture that I've had to stop reading and Google. Its a bit hard to start and stop like that, but if you can handle it its soooooo worth it!) She's by far my favorite and most anticipated for future works.

  7. The first novel I finished this year was Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth. I was a bit hesitant to trust Veronica's writing again after she broke my heart with her Divergent series' ending. One thing is for sure, she is extremely talented at creating worlds. Carve the Mark is a science fiction romance set in a solar system unlike any I've read about before. The characters, especially Cyra, are well written and come to life quickly.  Cyra's "gift" is a gift of pain. Not only can she inflict it if she touches another, but she feels pain herself all the time. I think part of why I connected so well with her is because I, too, suffer from a chronic nerve pain disorder. The way the author would describe the worst of Cyra's flares was exactly what I could relate to because its how I have spent much of my life over the last few years feeling. I've never read a novel with a character who shared that part of my own experience in life with before.

Thankfully, it is just one book in a brand new series. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

  9. My TBR pile is so big right now I'm not sure if there even *IS* an end to it. I'm only on book #3 for the year, but the last month or so I haven't been able to focus on anything because of a few personal situations going on.

To start with, I'm marking my progress in my Bullet Journal below. My goal right now is to try and get to 25. Hopefully, this is a low enough goal that even I can achieve it before the end of the year! On my Bullet Journal I'll be coloring in each shelf as I hit the corresponding number of books read.

I'll leave a blank post below this so I can list my TBR pile (and pre-order pile... there are some really good books coming out this year!)

  10. That sounds really nice. I'm very much into the 12 yr old girl version of cutesy so.... SPARKLES ALL THE THINGS!

No, really. I have a set of 98 colored pens with sparkly glitter ink that I use and my 5 rolls of washi tape are all glitter, lol. I do also use colored pencils to color in certain bits (like my writing WIP. Its a bookcase and as my word count goes up, I color in more books on the bookcase.)

I'm struggling a bit with my day/week/month structure for everyday things. I keep changing up what I want my goals to be and the OCD ninja in me is super annoyed that the entire BJ isn't the same format.

I found some nice washi tape in a shop I was in yesterday so I bought it. Has anyone else used their washi tape? I'm not entirely sure yet what I'll do with it but it seems a popular thing online so I figured I'll think of some use for it!

I have, but its one of those things that (well, for me) is shinier and prettier in theory than for what I use my BJ for. The washi tape I got isn't sticky enough (more like Post-It sticky rather than tape sticky) so it kept moving and coming off so I just gave up on it. I DID end up decorating the front of mine with it by wrapping it around then gluing it to the back of the cover to keep it in place, lol.

  12. Gaia, really? I actually really don't care for paperbacks (just because it makes me sad seeing the wear on the covers or seeing the spines get cracky and broken).

Michelle, I have A Darker Shade of Magic but haven't read it yet. its on my list, though (I have it as an audiobook). I'm so jealous you get to meet her and get your books signed! She's such a great writer, I can't wait for more of her books. :D I know ADSOM has great reviews so I'm excited. :D

There are just too many good books coming out this summer. I honestly can't keep up. :D

  13. Thanks! Yes, and she just announced today that Sony optioned it!!! I'm sure it'll be years before a movie is made, but knowing its possible makes me so happy! :D

And I Darken is great so far. The MC, Lada, has an incredibly strong voice and is very unique next to other YA MCs. Have you read it yet?

  14. I'm so lost with this thread that I don't even feel like going back to add the books I've read above, lol. I'm somewhat keeping up with them on Goodreads, but since my mojo has come back I've just sort of been going and going and going.

The last book I finished was This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab and it was absolutely fantastic! I love how she incorporates 3 types of beasts into her novel (you can really see how the dementors from HP inspired parts) and how the monster male MC had more humanity than many humans. I'm really excited for her to write the next book, but sad it'll only be a 2 book series. This world is really interesting and I'd love to hang around in it more than for just 2 books' time.

Today I received my copies of Beth Revis's A World Without You and Neil Gaiman's Coraline (the graphic novel version). I'm in the middle of Kiersten White's And I Darken right now so as soon as I finish that today I'm going to dive right into AWWY.

  15. Too hot to function! The high is supposed to be 95f (35c) and the humidity is at 90%. I think I could handle the temp if it wasn't so humid! I went to get the mail and that is about as much of the heat as I can take today!
