I can't believe I missed British Pie week! Disaster!
-
Sorry for my absence .. I'm not feeling too well at the moment. Trying to keep up with what you're all doing by reading little bits every day. Haven't read anything .. you'll have to do my reading for me Sending much love xx
-
RIP Rik Mayall! Comedy genius .. gone far too soon but the laughs will live on.
-
Is it still too early for the Christmas threads?
-
My cat Oscar is very ill .. the vet says it could go either way
-
Hello Julie How are you settling in? It's very pretty in here.
Have you finished Shirley Jackson yet? I finished Henry James on Friday night and almost threw a party!
-
Now we know where Summer was hiding .. behind Autumn!

Thanks Julie x I'm hoping that I'm getting it out of the way and that I won't get another one around Christmastime. You spend all that time planning meals and treats etc and then feel too awful to enjoy any of it. I struggled on with 'the Ambassadors' ... it didn't improve but you can't love every book can you? It's made every book since seem like a walk in the park
Hope you're ok Julie

Thank you Poppy :-) .. and thanks for popping in, it's great to see you. Hope you had a good weekend xx
-
Hi Marcia, I'm fine, we had a good time at the fete and raised quite a lot of money for the heroes .. the weather was sunny :-)and I got to hang out with the family so great all round. Hope you're good too, will pop into the coffee shop soon xx
-
Really it's no bother Frankie, it was getting to be a pain especially when we're getting into long convo's. I didn't take it personally at all it was probably getting on my nerves more than anyone else's and you know, you will soon get used to me in black Arial .. I'll throw the odd blue word in to let you know that Poppyshake is still functioning :-)
-
Paolo was one that I wanted to see but unfortunately missed. I love him! Love the Proclaimers too. I guess I can probably catch up on the BBC iplayer.
Hope Andy got home safe and sound and has recovered.
We have caught up with your weather now, it's cold and drizzly today.
-
Yes the weather looked ok in the end, I waited and waited to see Muse though .. I thought they were going to be on at 10.30 and didn't see them until 11.45, and then just four songs (I'm being greedy now and spoilt by the Glastonbury coverage which showed the whole set). Watched the other coverage and all the acts seemed good. The crowd looked like they were having a great time.
Hope Andy enjoyed it.

Yes, I'm sorry Diane .. that's hubby. Once he gets the tape out you can't stop him lol.
Glad it's reached you safe and sound.
-
Don't worry, there's absolutely no hurry. ... whenever you're next at the post office or whatever. I've just finished a book and just about to start a new one so got plenty to keep me going.
Thanks anyway in advance.

Thanks Chesil, I've just read it and replied. I'm looking forward to reading it now. I think he's fab.

Thanks Anika,
'Persephone' are publishers .. they reprint neglected classics from the 20th century (mostly by women) ..they do have a website, I think it's called persephone books. I've read about eight of them and they've all been fantastic .. very like Barbara Pym's writing. 'Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day' is a particular favourite.
Glad you're enjoying it here ... hope you have a Happy Christmas .. Best wishes from Kay

Hi Anika,
Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I haven't been too well. I'm glad you like my profile page.
'Excellent Women' is the first Barbara Pym book that I've read and I enjoyed it immensely .. I love Nancy Mitford also and the Persephone books (such as 'Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day' and 'Marianna'), I think those kind of books are fairly popular here at the moment.
Thanks for the recommendation of 'the Irish Christmas Feast' .. I love humour in my reading and I love short stories so I'll be looking out for that (Amazon only seems to sell it second hand but that's fine).
Hope you're settling in well,
Best wishes from Kay (Poppyshake)

That's ok Kimmy, I've just got back from spending a week in Ventnor .. it was beautiful and we were so fortunate with the weather .. gorgeous, we were sad to come back.
It's grey and drizzly here (it looks like we feel!!),
You are so lucky
-
Hello Kimmy ,
I have to say I'm insanely jealous .. it is my most desperate wish to live on the Isle of Wight .. I go there as often as I can (and stare longingly at all the Victorian houses) .. you lucky, lucky thing
-
Thank you, yes I'm having a fairly good week ... trying to sell our house at the moment and have been drooling over home mags dreaming of my dream house .. and your pics are as good if not better than anything I've seen.
-
I've been here every day since I joined too .. I know I should be getting on with other things but I'm hooked already
-
Hi, no worries, it's there in the pile .. I'll get around to reading it (someday!!)
Thanks for your message, I'm settling in nicely .. it's great here!
