  1. I meant to post this a while ago Diane sent me a beautiful Christmas card with book spines on it back and front and it was just too good to only display at Christmas so I cut it in half and framed them. Thanks Diane .. I love it
  2. Haha .. never be afraid to have an opinion Happy Reading in 2017 Raven!
  3. Catching up with Who Do You Think You Are with Sir Ian McKellen .. fascinating stuff!
  4. I take my hat off to you Shirley - swapping chips for salad .. that takes fortitude! I had chicken and rice .. AGAIN!!
  5. You're very welcome Hope you enjoy them my lovely
  6. Oh Lord Noll! Don't do it Remember spill, simmer, falter, wither? Well this book is similar in as much as it sort of plods and the protagonist isn't that pleasant but it hasn't even got a dog in it to save things (I liked that book too )
  7. Good luck with this challenge Diane Looks good and not too specific .. it gives you a lot of leeway
  8. They almost read themselves I've still got quite a few of her books on the shelf unread and it's a comfort to know they're there .. especially when a read has been gruelling. A couple of pages into Agatha and all is right again Yes, definitely I do think you can come back to a book, which was previously un-enjoyed, and enjoy it immensely but usually your first impression of a book is correct and it's best to move on. I'm not good at the moving on .. I tend to just suffer
  9. I love the look of his house .. what a treat for your friend's daughter. I'd definitely visit it .. but it's in constant use now. Maybe one day. I think Wendy wrote the book in close collaboration with Grayson .. she was instrumental in him getting his story out there because it was her suggestion that he tell it but I must amend my list because you're right Wendy wrote it. I haven't read his other books yet but I want to He is a very courageous man and an inspiration. I saw him talking about The Descent of Man on Graham Norton and it sounded fascinating so I've written it down on my library list
  10. Great album! What were his backing singers called? I know it was something hilarious Listening to some early Rod
  11. I've felt quite sick recently .. I think it's a bug. I'd be fine for most of the day and then feel really queasy for seemingly no reason. It's gone now Hope you're feeling better too Noll Good luck with the haircut Claire Hope it goes alright. I don't go either .. ever. Al does mine (not well but still) I can't face it. I'm not anti social as I hope you know but I find the whole thing torturous .. just the sitting and chatting and then the haircut is often awful (I'm not helping am I? ) I haven't been in ten years or more and I'm not going .. you can't make me! I would need an anaesthetic You can always wear a hat xx
  12. My favourite foods would probably be all processed Bread, cheese, butter and bacon feature highly in my list of foods I can't live without .. cake also of course In all its forms Other than that, I guess: Potatoes Eggs Minced Beef Onions Tomatoes Chicken Runner Beans Apples Mushrooms Nuts
  13. Ooh .. that looks delicious Claire! I only had a tuna fish sandwich and some crisps .. not a proper dinner I'm feeling hard done by What I wanted was a nice big, fat, jacket potato with too much butter and grated cheese. I didn't get it though .. it was not in my fridge .. it was only in my imagination
  14. Sorry to hear that you've been stressed Keeping warm is so important for good spirits etc. Layers of clothes and hats are always good though, Al is always telling me to put a hat on because heat escapes through your head etc It is weird though to be bundled up like a snowman in your own home but I often have to do it because this house is old and it's short on mod cons and big on draughts and leaks Glad to hear that your dad has fixed the heating. Three cheers for Dad
  15. Happy reading in 2017 James! Good luck with the old TBR
  16. The covers were fab (that was some consolation )
  17. I've just been down to the basement and found it I'll bring it with me when I see you in Feb Or let me know if you want to see it before then and I'll put it in the post
  18. I quite like boring and predictable especially with murder mysteries but we'll see. I dread to think what you would have made of the latter Mordecai books Claire .. the last one was pretty dismal.
  19. Yes that happened .. might have been the year before, I can't remember You are most welcome to borrow them at any time Claire. They really are excellent and the audiobooks are excellent too. I think I have them on CD.
  20. I don't know how it is .. we have got some new technology but we have no recording facilities .. or none that I've been able to fathom anyway I think back fondly to the good old VHS days .. just press record! I rely totally on iPlayer which is such a treasure trove You can't let the grass grow under your feet though .. one blink and the episode has gone for good (or for five mins anyway .. there's always repeats ) And it's lucky that I don't stray far from the BBC
