  1. I'm up to chapter eight of this book and I'm really enjoying it. Reading it as much as I can
  2. I finally gave up on Labyrinth by Kate Mosse. I had to return the book to the library and since I wasn't enjoying it that much I didn't see the point in renewing it. Besides, I normally finish my books way before the three week library deadlines. I took out Vlad: The Last Confessions by C.C. Humphreys, which is more my type of book. I am really enjoying it so far and find myself trying to read it at every possible chance. I only heard of it through this forum so, thanks everyone for your great recommendations I've also swapped (via read it swap it) for Eragon and Wedlock and am waiting for those to arrive
  3. I've recently finished The Autobiography of Henry VIII by Margaret George and I would highly recommend it. This huge door stop of a book has been very well researched, is rich in detail but also gives Henry's life in a novel form from his point of view. It starts in his boyhood and goes right through his wives up until his death. I consume all of the Tudor books that I can get my hands on and it was great to finally read something from Henry's point of view. It even inspired a trip to Hampton Court Palace
  4. I read this earlier in the year and loved it. I found the writing style to be a bit of a hurdle but only because I wanted to speed through the book and get to the end. I forced myself to slow down and absorb the book properly. I can't wait for the sequel!
  5. I know you've kinda said no to Tipping The Velvet but I read it earlier this year and it is BRILLIANT... just saying
  6. I'd also recommend The Heretic's Daughter. I read it earlier this year and it gives a great idea of how people lived in those times, the religious mania and the danger of gossip. I was quite horrified by some of the things the book talks about it and it made me very angry by the end.
  7. We studied this in class and I remember choking back the tears when we finally watched the film version. So so sad For me it would have to be that great line in Jane Eyre It made me so happy when I first read it
  8. Thank you I was very surprised by all the changes when I logged back on I read large chunks at a time and she has started three different chapters by explaining that the character had woken up and didn't know where she was. I found that annoying
  9. I haven't been on this website in a while but I have done lots of reading I'm currently reading The Labyrinth by Kate Mosse, which is keeping me entertained enough to read but it isn't as good as I thought it would be. I'm almost half way through and keep finding myself falling asleep whilst reading it... not a good idea. Has anyone else read this?
  10. Belated happy birthday. Sorry I missed it. :-)

  11. Happy Birthday!

  12. Well, I gave up on The Secret Scripture. Life is just too short. I've read the first few pages of The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and am instantly gripped.
  13. I finished reading The Wild Things and was slightly disappointed. It wasn't amazing. I started reading The Secret Scripture by Sebastian Barry and I'm finding it quite slow at the moment. I'm going to keep plodding along with it though. I also got The Historian out of the library
