  1. I read that it sold 1,000,000 copies the first day.
  2. I was 7 years old and had to sign up to wait for the Oz books at the school library. They were my favorite ones. 1900 The Wonderful Wizard of Oz 1904 The Marvelous Land of Oz 1907 Ozma of Oz 1908 Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz 1909 The Road to Oz 1910 The Emerald City of Oz 1913 The Patchwork Girl of Oz 1914 Little Wizard Stories of Oz 1914 Tik-Tok of Oz 1915 The Scarecrow of Oz 1916 Rinkitink in Oz 1917 The Lost Princess of Oz 1918 The Tin Woodman of Oz 1919 The Magic of Oz 1920 Glinda of Oz
  3. I just finished it and loved the ups and downs of the story. A truly good book with a great title. Those that have read it will know what I mean...don't want to give anything away.
  4. I don't reread books because there are too many new ones I want to read. My husband will reread old books like the series with Butch Karp by Robert K. Tanenbaum but I don't like to go back when they were young and the kids were too. Been there done that.
  5. I have list of male authors that I read their new books and now and then I get a Tammi Hoag or Nora Roberts. Lately I've been reaching out to new authors and have found some very good ones. Andrew Gross is very good on his new book Don't Look Twice. I really wasn't sure about him because he wrote with James Patterson, and good 'ol James was putting out about 2 books a month. But this book is good and look at his photo on the cover...he's a real cutie. I found Vince Flynn by trying new to me authors. I'm very impressed with his writings. I guess I'll read a male over a female author nearly everytime. I don't like silly books like by Janet Evanovich, tried her and didn't like her books. They must be for younger readers. I really like anything Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child write. And David Baldacci, I also like anything he writes especially about Oliver Stone aka John Carr series. A good thing there are lots and lots of books, some for everyone.
  6. Are you sure your name isn't John? That's what my husband does only he has a few words that go with it. I'm afraid papyrus wouldn't work for me, I would always be losing it or lose it in the book somewhere. A tropical breeze would just blow it right out of my book. If I bought really nice books, like classics, I would use a book mark. But most of my books come from MysteryGuild and they are almost throw-away-books. Please don't be too harsh with me because I love to read and it's not that I don't respect my books, I'm just not careful with them.
  7. Near Tampa, before we moved we lived in Punta Gorda. We moved on a Wednesday August 11th, and Hurricane Charley destroyed everything on Friday 13th. We felt we were truly blessed that we didn't have to go through all that. Your avatar is very interesting, reminds me of a free spirit.
  8. I do that, take the cover off, because I want it to stay nice. Don't know why, they're all are boxed up when I finish them. I also {{turn the corner down}}. If my husband hasn't read it yet, I use a book marker. (because he yells at me ) When I use a book marker I can never remember if I'm at the top or bottom of one of the pages, when I dog ear it, I do it closest to when I leave off.
  9. I understand now, I don't think the edit was showing.
  10. thank you, yours is my favorite painting. How do I put a signature at the bottom of my post, I have no selection on my profile.
  11. Thank you! now I have 10 posts
  12. I live and learn...never heard of DC Comics, but now that I have it's very interesting. Thanks:friends0:
  13. I love books and wanted to be with people who do too. My name is Madelyn Vlasek and I'm not really the HotCzech, my husband is. I read at least a book a week, sometime three books. I look forward to a really fun time here.
  14. You could say that...I was going more with Jack Reacher, Mitch Rapp or John Carr.
  15. You have to really like Stephen King and his writings, I got turned off trying to read Tommyknockers because of the language, but now he seems better. I hope you try again to read it. The fictitious island Dumas Key was set in an area where I live in Florida. Major Characters Edgar Freemantle: is the central character in the book, which focuses on his struggles and it is eventually him that takes the lead in the climatic fight against Perse. Jerome Wireman: is a former lawyer from Omaha who moved down to Florida after losing his wife and daughter, surviving a suicide attempt, and being fired from his law firm. Elizabeth Eastlake: a wealthy heiress and former art patron suffering from Alzheimers, she plays a major role in background of the story and in leading the protagonists to stopping the evil force present on the island. Pam Freemantle: Edgar's wife who divorces him at the beginning of the novel. During the novel she has several affairs, but gradually reconciles with him until the events of the climax begin. Ilse Freemantle: Edgar's youngest daughter who remains the only person from his "past life" to stay close to him and who is the person he loves most in the world. Jack Cantori: local college student who serves as Edgar's chauffer and handyman, keeping the house stocked with groceries and picking up whatever odds and ends he needs. It is his quick thinking that allows them to trap Perse at the end of the novel. Perse: the evil force manifested on Duma Key, she first reached out through young Elizabeth Eastlake to get back to the surface from the ocean before being trapped in freshwater, (she is left powerless by it), until the present day. She commands a ship of damned souls, and while not human is said to have something distinctly feminine about her, and she is manifest in an old china doll with a red cloak. She is again put back to sleep at the end of the novel though the characters fear she'll still eventually escape again.
