  1. The following books left a mark on my way of thinking about social issues such as poverty, equality of the sexes, racism and bigotry, and religious hypocrisy. Night by Elie Wiesel A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens Madame Bovary by by Gustave Flaubert The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shire A Passage to India, by E.M. Forster Washington Square by Henry James Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  2. My favorite: A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens Also: 84 Charring Cross Road by Helene Hanff Daisy Miller by Henry James The Canterville Ghost by Oscar Wilde The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman The Murders in the Rue Morgue by Edgar Allan Poe
  3. If you like mystery novels or psychological novels I highly recommend anything by George Simenon. He's one of my top five favorite authors. His books are short intense. I always get lost in Simenon;s books from beginning to end.
  4. Here in the USA the last episode of season 4 aired on Sunday. I'm going through withdrawal! ;) Season 4 won't let you down, I promise! I envy you watching it for the first time. :)

  5. Moon. Glorious moon ~ Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay
  6. Miss Brooke had that kind of beauty which seems to be thrown into relief by poor dress. ~ Middlemarch by George Eliot Midway in our life's journey, I went astray from the straight road and woke to find myself alone in a dark wood. ~ The Divine Comedy, Inferno by Dante Alighieri
  7. The Canterville Ghost is a charming and clever twist to the ghost story, and Wilde's brilliant, signature use of words makes it superb. Oscar Wilde paints masterpiece pictures with words like a master painter does with watercolors. Like the fictional painting of Dorian Gray, Wilde's painting of Dorian Gray, Wilde's written picture of of Dorian Gray never grows old. Treat yourself to Wilde's fairy tales, written for children and grown-ups alike. These are stories which he told to his sons when they were little.
  8. It was the 4th season here in the USA. It was every bit as good as the last three seasons, maybe even better, and now I'm having withdrawal.
  9. Now that Dexter's over for the season (), I'm watching season 1 of Lost, which I've never seen before. I've watched the first 4 episodes so far and I'm hooked!
  10. I love you avatar. :) How did you like the last episode of this season?

  11. Has anyone read The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas? It looks really good, and I'm thinking of buying a copy.

  14. I've just begun Insomnia. (Being an insomniac the title caught my eye ). I'm just a few pages into it and it's already grabbed me. I'm in the mood for a good Stephen King book.
  15. If it's bad, I wonder if the theater manager would give me my money back on the grounds it's an insult to Oscar Wilde?
  16. Siberia. They decided that it would be a good idea to...
  17. Here's a behind the scenes video about the the movie, Dorian Gray. Ben Barnes plays Dorian. I'm not impressed.
