Frank Chalmers is a great antagonist from the book Red Mars. It's really hard to decide whether or not he's actually evil, or just confused about his life.

Hi, I stumbled upon this forum just yesterday and seeing the vibrant, book-loving community decided I simply must join! I'm 14 and currently living in Japan. My favorite genre is probably science fiction, and one of my favorite books is Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson. Some other favorites of mine include Watership Down by Richard Adams and Galapagos by Kurt Vonnegut. Anyway, I hope to see you around the forums!
