  1. Shouldn't you be asking that in my other thread not my reading one, Mr Off-topic.

    OoooooooooooooH! Hark at her! dramaqueen.gif

Only joking, fella. I thought she might have been your favourite author...? On a serious note, I'm going to be picking up The Lost Symbol because you said it was his best one. You did. So I'm holding you entirely and solely responsible.

mocking.gif Stay well, my friend. Stay well.

P.S. I don't have a telly, dude, so struggle to keep up with the 'in' shows. I'm such a sad old bu**er. huh.gif

  2. Did you really like the third novel as well? I thought it was way out there, I didn't much enjoy it. On the fourth novel Lindsay was back to his good old self though and the novel was great! When do you think you'll be reading the fifth novel? I hope you enjoy it :) Mac, I gotta ask you. Is there perhaps a bit of drag queen in you? You were a Deaverette and Dexterette long before you volunteered yourself as the toga dressed mascot in the new Pervy Coffee House of peace  Aww Mac, how do you put up with us?? :D

I actually really enjoyed the third novel, but agree that it was 'out there'. However, I enjoy quite a lot of stuff referring to the occult and have very much enjoyed Christopher Fowler's novels and short stories, so am well prepared for the odd turns Mr Lindsay might throw at us from time to time.

As for the Drag Queen - alas, I've only really worn a dress on four occasions. Once, as a Panto Dame, once with a bunch of my older scouts when we went to Laser Quest, who insisted I joined them in feminine attire and twice on two separate stag do's. I use this forum to let my inhibitions fly! wink.gif

  3. What what what??

I think I read somewhere that there were three novels connected (as were the first two) and that the third was due out soon. Of course, being a total doughnut without the wit one would grant a woodlouse, I could be entirely wrong. I might even have dreamt it. I can't remember.

If the information I have let fly upon these boards is wildly apocryphal, then my apologies. My only excuse is that my mind has gone. Many years since. huh.gif

  4. Why are DVD extra features almost always accompanied by non-stop music in the background, even when actors, designers, researchers and writers are being interviewed? Does anyone else find this incredibly distracting and irritating? It's like the constant music in the background of the links between kid's programmes and some of the lower-brow news programmes. It makes it all almost unwatchable!

    Gah! irked.gif

    Rant over. Thoughts, please. biggrin.gif

  5. I wasn't amazingly keen on Dracula, as it happens. But I have really enjoyed both The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova and Vladd by C C Humphreys. The first is a well researched story which leans towards the myth of Dracula the vampire, whereas the latter is about the 15th Century count from Wallachia Vladd Tepes whom, through his actions, became the legend upon whom Dracula is based. Both truly excellent books. Just ask Noll. smile.gif

  6. I read this shortly before joining the BCF (I think) and really enjoyed it. I liked the way it was written during a period of Freud's life which hasn't been documented and gives a suggestion as to why he never returned to the States. A really good read! I'm glad you liked it. biggrin.gif

  7. I bought my first copy of An Instance of the Fingerpost by Iain Pears and got halfway through when it jumped about 80 pages backwards, even though the numbering continued correctly. I was gutted, because the book was brilliant. I raced back the 40 miles the next day to swap it for a proper copy, only realising that it would have probably been cheaper to nip into town and buy a new copy after the deed was done. And I ended up buying another two books whilst I was there!!! doh.gif
