  1. Individually: we humans can be quite nice to one another; collectively: we seem to act appallingly towards one another. Tribalism sucks the big one.

At times, yes. I just remember the ordinary 'tribe' of sweepers who hit the streets after the London riots to clean up their streets. Tribalism doing good things.

Sometimes it's the thinking of the lining that gets us through. I believe that the majority are decent, it's the bad uns that get the headlines though.

  2. Aching a little after walking 19 miles yesterday...

You are going to have to walk further than that to become a proper Proclaimer!

I'm walking from my front door to Scotland, which is 300 miles, in July. Does that get me any closer...?

My family has a cottage in Porthleven, near Helston. 'Tis a magic spot. I'm sure that, if you had time, we could meet for a couple of pints. It might be fun. I'll introduce you to my somewhat eccentric girlfriend.

  7. Mac

Sedge, good sir. Long time no speak. How goes it, my friend? All is well, one hopes.

  8. Thought I'd say 'ayup'. So, ayup! Have you read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova? It's terribly good. And, have you read The Last Witchfinder by James Morrow? That's terribly good, too! Hope you're alright, mate. Pip pip.

How's life without the demon drink, Jewell? I'm sat here on me laptop waiting for the chiken to marinate with a nice, big glass of Rioja by my side. Ahhhh, bliss.

I note you're reading The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. Douglas Adams has a lot to answer for regarding my formative years. Some of my earliest memories are of listening to Hitchhikers on the wireless with my Dad, shortly before he cleared off. Then reading the books, loving the TV show, all that jazz. I think the guy was a genius. I hope you're enjoying it.

    Have a great evening.

  10. "Birthday paradox-ox-ox-ox..."

  11. Man-Flu with a vengence, lady! It's gone into my inner ear and I'm all over the place! You should see it when I fall right on my harris - oh, such mirth.

I'm currently banging through The Hard Way by Lee Child. Sit back, switch off the brain and enjoy! I love it. I like to go, one to think about, one to not think about. One to think about, one not to think about. One to...I guess you get the idea.

    I hope you're well, chum.

    Ta ta.

  12. Hiya Sarah. It's been a while. Just popping by to see how you are. Hope all is good with you, chum. Toodles for now.

  13. Hi Michelle. Just dropping by to reiterate my thanks for running such a smashing site. It's perfect for me (despite it taking me a short while to work out the why's and wherefore's!!) and I've found so many new authors because of it.

    So...:thankyousigna2:

  14. Hello, Library Nook! I'm going to PM you my address so you can send on those Charlaine Harris books when you're done with them (there's no hurry, as I've got approximately 8,693 books on my TBR pile. Approximately...)

    Hope you're well.

  15. Hello there, all the way over in Denmark. Hope you're enjoying the BCF!

  16. Mac

Sounds good to me. We'll try and sort something out. Have a great Sunday.

  17. I'm off to Wales on Monday, undertaking my ML training in Snowdonia (which'll be interesting, if a little nerve-wracking...) I'll let you know. Wild camping in the Mountains often lends itself to stargazing in wonderment! x

  18. Mac

Aww, shucks! Thanks for the lovely post. I'm a dreadful chap in real life...*shrugs shyly*

  19. By the way, I have 'pm'd you again. Have a good...erm...day? I'm going to have to think of another thing to write to wish you happy times and niceness, aren't I? Pip pip.

I went without booze for nine months last year. I don't know what came over me! The daft thing was, it didn't make me feel any better!

The reason I did it was that I found myself getting home at around 9.30 in the evening, sitting down with a book and a bottle of red, reading until I went to bed at 12.30 - having drunk the bottle. Every night. I began to think that this might not be a good thing. I'm much more sensible about it all now, but it's surprisingly easy to drink a whole bottle of wine over the course of three relaxing hours.

Good luck with the no-booze drive!

  21. I loved the film of Perfume as well. I thought Ben Whishaw was perfect for the role. Interestingly enough, I do sound a little like Guy Garvey. My songs and his seem very similar, which is why I probably like them. When I first heard of them in 2001, I thought 'Bloody hell, that sounds like me!' I had 13 songs published in 1999 which were bandied around several artists and they remain in their portfolios to this very day. So one never knows one's luck, I might one day be 'quids in', so to speak.

How're things over the pond, lady? How're you? *waves frantically with a comic touch*

  22. Hiya Kelly. How are you, this fine weekend? I'm just popping in to say hello, 'tis all. Hope you're very well, my friend.

  23. I am, as you say, your human TBR pile. Ask for suggestions and I shall supply. I wonder what would happen if one of the books I recommend turns out to be s**te? Maybe my hard-drive would shut down and wouldn't be able to boot back up...

  24. Mac

Yo Beef! What's happening, Chief? I trust you're enjoying an excellent Sunday. Because Sunday should be spelled Funday!

  25. That read much worse than it was supposed to. :lurker::blush: I meant that my laptop wouldn't allow me back on the web. I really need to vet what I type prior to stabbing the 'go' key...

Hope you're excellent, my friend. :friends0:
