  1. Ah, but many question my male-ness, you know. I don't watch telly (no ariel, no licence), I don't like football, I can't stand "Lads" magazines and I don't like lager.

I do like cooking, reading (obviously), keeping my house clean, real ale, red wine, single malts (Western Isles) and tramping over the hills and mountains.

Not much pukka about me. A bit of a softy at heart, really. Maybe I need to 'Man Up', as they say. Hold on, I'm going to walk across to the local Knuckles Pub and shout that "England is sh*te and all football supporters are gay!" and see where that gets me...

    xx

  2. Ah, Sarah. I'm a little bummed out about this for you. But you are quite correct - it's their loss, the idiots!

I was indeed on my walk - got back Sunday night after finishing the trek with a Scout Camp - not exactly what I needed after walking 220 miles or so, but I guess I'll sleep enough when I'm dead. We camped at Whitby and did the whole Dracula thing, which terrified the Scouts. They've never been so quiet upon retirement at night!

I had appalling weather over the mountains. Thick snow coupled with blizzards and dense cloud makes navigation quite tricky, and when you're four hours from anywhere, it can be a little unnerving, especially when you're on your own. It really challenged my skills and resolve, I can tell you.

What's new with you, chum? Any more news on the job hunting front? xx

  3. Aha, but that's the joy of having a slow cooker! You sling it all in as one normally would, and then leave the thing alone for the day. Magic (it's smelling terrific already!).

I'm so glad you're feeling a little more chipper, Giulia. I'll admit to having felt a little worried for you of late. And thanks for the support-vibes re: this evening. You're a good'un.

    Enjoy your Saturday. x

Ahoy there, Charm. Just dropping in to see how you're doing. Are you well and enjoying your Sunday? Hope so.

    TTFN.

  5. Ahoy there, Kate. Just a quickie to say hello and see how your summer's going. I hope all is well with you. I got the job and I'm starting in September, so I'm looking forward to the new challenge. What's new with you?

Hoping this finds you well and very happy, chum.

Ahoy there, Nicola. How're things up Newcastle way? Have you visited any of my Uncle's restaurants yet?

What's new with you? Hope you're well.

  7. Mac

Ahoy there, Paula. Sputnik Sweetheart is, of course, wonderful. I may even finish it this evening, all being well. I love Murakami. Simple as that.

It's been a tough week back at school - the department's all scattered now (this is a good thing) but it sort of accents the fact that some of the less-than-professional colleagues of mine blank me in the corridors in front of the kids. Berks. They're just not suited to working in this environment.

    But, it's the weekend. Yay!

How are you doing? Snowed in? Stocked up with goodies to eat? Loads of books to keep you entertained? We're wading through all of Buffy - Season 5 tonight (maybe even as far as the episode 'The Body'...)

    Take care. x

  8. Ahoy there! How's life in the East? I hope you're having plenty of fun!

    Happy days.

    Mac X

  9. Ahoy there! I thought I'd drop in to say 'Ahoy there!'. So...mission accomplished!!!

    Hope you've had a great weekend. :D

  10. Ahoy there! Just whizzing by to make nautical sounding greetings towards you. I hope you had a splendid Christmas and a bloomin' marvellous new years eve doo-dah and that everything in your world is tickety-boo and pucker.

    Chips! x

  11. Ahoy there. I have (rather fortuitously) returned from Cornwall 12 hours early and have awoken this morning to find the world covered with about 6 inches of snow. I'm not even sure why I decided to drive back last night!

    How are you doing? x

  12. Ahoy, there, Kate! Just dropping by to say hello and see how you're doing. I have been extraordinarily busy, of late. This weekend I have been to my aunty's 50th birthday party. Many of us are obliged to do a 'turn' at these things, and of course I had to acquiesce to her wishes. However, the 'entertainment' was pretty much abysmal and the do was not something I enjoyed. I just wanted to drive home!

Which is where I am now. I've been head-hunted for a job working with challenging kids in a secondary school in a run-down area, which I'm probably going to take. So this is good news. It's for the same money, but with less hours and longer holidays, so I'd be a mug not to take it.

I hope you're very, very well and happy, that you're having an excellent time with your boyfriend and that work has ceased to be quite the stress-inducing experience you were finding it.

    Take good care, my friend.

    Mac :friends0:

  13. All is well, really, ta. I love Wildlife Parks. We get to go reasonably regularly at work, because my dudes are very fond of animals. I'm quite lucky doing what I do, even if it's so poorly paid.

I'm glad things are good. :jump:

  14. Aloha, CW. S'been a while, because I'm rubbish. My head is currently lodged in a bucket of cold water by way of atonement.

    How are you? X

  15. Aloha, friend-of-mine.

How're things going with you at this time, eh? Thought I would just drop by, say 'Aloha' and wish you nice things. Oh, yes!

    Hope you're excellent and tickety-boo. :friends0:

  16. Aloha, Michelle. Just scooting by to say a very belated Happy Birthday and a good luck with the leaving work thing (one assumes that it's a good thing and through choice due to the countdown factor...)

Of course, it might not be through choice - maybe you're prescient and foresaw a point where you're trapped beneath something heavy, a wardrobe, or a Gnu, say, and had the decency to hand your notice in to save the embarrassment of having to explain why you weren't there for the past few weeks - a Gnu, of all things! What were you thinking?!?

*sounds of Mac dropping his marbles all over the living room floor and, look, there, a few of them definitely plummeted through the floorboards...

  17. Aloha, my friend. Here's another :friends0: for crawling out from underneath your dissertation.

I hope you're very lovely and well, Giulia. Looking forward to the next instalment of your novel. :D

  18. Mac

Aloha. All the Dexter books are excellent (so far - this is the third) and I'm enjoying this one also. I sometimes have to leave books at home so I don't get them out at work and this is one of them. The kids would feel disgruntled if I were to pay more attention to a novel than them.

    "Aw, Sir! You're really boring!"

"Yeah? Well, you're a prat, but I can put my book down!"

    Idiots.

    xx

  19. Aloha. I am tip top ta. Quite a gentle weekend ahead, not much planned after this morning, so I'm looking forward to some peace! Marvellous.

How are you, CW? Hope this finds you pukka!

  20. Aloha. Wicky wicky and all that jazz. It has been too long since last we spoke. What's new with you, Lou? (I know your name isn't Lou, but it rhymed. So there.)

Ho hum. Crazy days, eh? Crazy days.

  21. Apologies for over-use of the word 'mate'. I forget what I've written previously (although if I juuuusst scroll down a little...yeeessss, there we are...), and so quite often repeat myself. And now I've forgotten what you wrote to me! D'oh!

Oh. Yeah. The mojo thing. Hmmm...I always try to read an author I absolutely know I love. That usually helps.

    Happy days, Whitlock. Happy days!

  22. Mac

As always, ridiculously busy, but pottering along nicely, thank you. How are you doing? I'm going to have to review what I'm doing with my life in many ways. I need to get out of working with the most challenging people in society and find something that rewards me more, both spiritually and fiscally.

What's the plan for the weekend? xx

  23. Ayup. I teach drums, guitar and bass to a bunch of youngsters around the local area. I've been playing since I was a young'un and like to pass it on.

I work with adults with learning disabilities as a day job and do tonnes of volunteer work with the Scouts and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Busy, busy, busy. I notice you're looking at the Michel Faber thread. The Courage Consort's a good novella.

Where are you from originally? Where will you return to once the rotation's have finished?

Hope this finds you really well.

  24. Mac

Back in my day, we knew what cold was, you whipper-snapper, you! A bag of coal would last us two winters and if we complained, they'd take that off us!

La la laaaa. But, eeee, by 'eck ma, it's parky, tha knows. Tha's rate, sirrah.

    Pip pip.

  25. Bernard Black is a god! Evidence for this fact? I quote:

Am I dead? Have I joined a cult?

    Excellent.
