  1. Hiya Zmae -

I'm a fellow Austen-fan and at the moment on the hunt for anyone who may be interested in joining me in reading any of the Austen novels, and posting our thoughts on the threads as we go along to compare and discuss our views. It makes it much more interesting when reading through a book that way don't you think?

By now you may be finished "Emma" but if you're interested in starting another of the novels - I'd love to join you! Let me know if you fancy the idea, I'm not fussy which book is chosen, as I've got them all.

  2. Hi guys, thanks for visiting! I do love your big pussycat friend, madcow - he'd probably love my little tortishell friend, too - for a snack! Hope to see y'all around the threads - Booknutt
  3. I saw a little book of part of an early work "Catherine" in town just this morning, but it didn't have an ending. Just stopped with the characters planning an outing. I suppose there will always be publishers who are willing to print anything of J.A.'s, in the hope of making profit selling it to Austen-fans!.
  4. Sorcha from "Daughter of the Forest" the first book in the Sevenwaters series by Juliet Marillier.... when she was a child, though - as her challenges came along as she grew into womanhood. I'd have loved to live in Ancient Ireland (just as Christianity was making itself felt) as part of the life of the land. Believing still in the "old faith" and knowing encyclopedia's-worth about herbs and magic. Druidism, in short. Not to mention enjoying the wonderful childhood she experienced with her brothers - running wild about their father's land! The only trouble is - I'd take it for granted, just as she did. Booknutt
  5. Hiya Cam - isn't it great that we can chat-across-the-ocean about our joint obsession, here? Happy reading - Booknutt
  6. Happy Birthday Kylie - isn't it great when the Big Day falls on a Friday? Make it last - all over the weekend!

  7. Just checking that I remembered to say "thanks" for adopting me, Roxi. I'm a bit scatterbrained, as you'll learn - but harmless.

    Have a great weekend.

  8. Thank you Michelle .... thank you, thank you ...thank you! A de-stressed Nutt.
  9. Thank you to everybody for your welcomes. I'm getting the hang of it now - though do keep being cut off without apology and have to keep coming back! But I wasn't born determined for nothing! There's loads of fun to be had here, and loads of choice - it's almost as bad as trying to handle my TBR pile - sweet suffering! Mostly I'm into various historical-type novels, especially those with a touch-of-magic in them. But I also like sci-fi (O.K. I'm a Trekkie!) and am a White Eagle and Diana Cooper fan. They make all the wonderful spiritual opportunities around us seem so - simple. Which of course they are. Oh yeah - Mary Stewart too - do any of you like her work? She's an "oldie" of course, and reading most of her stuff is like watching "Life on Mars" - scenes of life from a previous age. My goodness - people even smoked, then! Her historicals and who-dunnit's are great, too. Hugs to you all - Bye for now Booknutt.
  10. Hi Roxi

It was great to meet you on the Jane Austen thread. You're a bit "older" than me here - by a few weeks - and I'm quite a bit older than you in years - but I'm sure that won't stop us enjoying the novels together, Roxi. That's one of the joys of reading - it spans the generations. Hopefully we'll gather a few other Jane-ites before launch-date. Bye for now, Roxi - Booknutt

  11. Hiya Lola-Rose

Things are showing signs of life on the Jane Austen thread - if you'd like to pop along there? So far Northanger Abbey seems a likely first choice.(See the chat on the P & P thread) Bring along a few mates if anyone else is interested! Bye for now - Booknutt

  12. Joining the Group would be a "smooth move" then, Roxi - you'd get an early start on the books! Along with Lola-Rose, that's three of us interested, then? Which novels will you be reading Roxi? We could ask Kell if we could start-off with one of them, as I've got no preference, and I don't think Lola-Rose has, either. Bye for now - Booknutt
  13. Thanks Michelle for the tip - I'll blunder off to that site and cause chaos there, too! I've just received a new buy this morning which may be useful to any fellow-newbies it's "Jane Austen The World of her Novels" by Deirdre Le Fay. I've only had a chance for a quick flick-through yet, but it looks that rare thing, an interesting text-book(!) covering a multitude of details about the world she lived in, plus sections on each novel, too. I hope it'll be helpful in explaining things which years-ago, if I didn't understand .... I ignored! Bye for now, all - Booknutt
  14. Hiya - is anybody there? I'm currently reading Pride and Prejudice, but would be happy to changeover to any other of Austen's novels another fan may wish to start on. I read all the novels as a teenager/twentysomething - which is quite a while ago! - and decided some time ago to buy the lovely box-set of the collected novels, and get stuck into them, again. Unfortunately, I developed a phobia about them, as when I received them all the gilt edged pages were stuck together in each and every book, into wedges! (It seems I was just unfortunate, as no-one else seems to have had the same problem.) I had to separate each and every page in each and every book .....it was a nightmare! and by the time I'd finished, I couldn't face them for ages. Happily - I've recovered my interest lately, and I chose P & P to start with as it's my favourite film of the books, and I really enjoyed "Lost in Austen" on telly a few months ago. (Actually, that'd make a great sub-subject for us to chat on, wouldn't it - or is there a thread on that somewhere I've missed?) Anyway - this is me calling for anyone else interested in continuing Austen-chats here. Go on - get your bonnet and cloak on - and let's get started! Bye for now - Booknutt
  15. Hi Lola-Rose - what a lovely name you've got!

It's good to hear that there's another Austen-newbie around, so we'll be meeting on the her threads. I was a bit annoyed to miss the chat last year, but maybe us "young 'uns" can generate a new interest again?

It's a bit slow getting around things (for me, anyway) at present, as I'm not very computer-aware, and a bit scatterbrained into the bargain, but I hope to be actually enjoying the experience, very soon.

It's nice to "chat" to you, Lola-Rose. Bye for now - Booknutt

  16. Booknutt here - another newbie on site! It's hard work getting used to a new place, and I'm a bit slow getting on my feet - having already trampled a few of the rules underfoot Michelle was very patient with me, though - and it's all starting to sink in, now! All that remains is for the problem of me being regularly "cut off" to go away, and I'll be fine. The internet is a fantastic thing - except when it isn't! Hope to chat to loads of you as I get better at this - Bye for now - Booknutt.
  17. The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge. It's recently been re-issued in a gift format, and also paperback. Also - a film based on the story is soon-to-be-released. It stars Ioan Gruffywdd (I'm sure that's the (in)correct spelling of surname ) in other words Hornblower of the tv series. The book is wonderful - I read it again only a few weeks ago. Booknutt
  18. Hi Maureen - thanks for popping by my "C.V." for a looksee. It's a bit boring yet, as I'm still wet behind the ears, but time will tell more!

I do like the site, though.

Hope to "see" you around - Booknutt

  19. Who else finds haveing a TBR list a lot frustrating?! It's bad enough knowing that there are loads of fantastic "reads" out there - without having them actually listed in front of my eyes - while I try to find the time in the day to get through the book I'm on currently (and usually in fact, I'm on a few at a time!). It's even worse when said books are waiting with impatience on my shelves for my attention .... I can hear them calling me, while I'm nose-in something else. A bit like having new friends waiting for me to get to them ..... I just felt like venting a bit here - I'm sure I'm not alone in this! Bye for now - Booknutt
  20. Hi fellow Austen-fan, I'm new here too, and like me - you've just missed the thread which ran last year where all the Austen novels were covered! I read all the novels years ago, in my dim and distant past, and though I've dipped in-and-out of 'em over the years since, it's been ages since I settled to read them through again. I do love all the screen versions, though - so have kept up my interest through them. At present I'm reading Pride and Prejudice, but am willing to changeover to anything you may be on, so we can discuss the stories & etc., Interested? - Then let me know! Bye for now - Booknutt
