  1. Finished Year of the Fat Knight by Antony Sher last night. Loved it. Moving on to Man and Superman by Shaw and keeping on with 1356 by Cornwell. This month is the best of the year as far as my reading is concerned...feel like I've finally turned a corner.
  2. Finished reading Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig. A wonderful book. Started reading 1356 by Bernard Cornwell. Love a good historical adventure! Still reading Year of the Fat Knight by Antony Sher. Saw the plays and it's interesting to learn how they were put together.
  3. Finished The Supernatural Enhancements by Edgar Cantero last night. I had a bit of an up and down relationship with it. Loved some parts and others were totally confusing. Think it would make a better tv show than a book. Now moving on to The Year of the Fat Knight by Antony Sher. I read his Year of the King and loved it, so I've got high hopes!
  4. Hi to everyone. I've been away from this site for a long time. I have recently got my reading mojo back and have been lurking on here to keep my motivation up. I get so many ideas on here to add to my TBR, (which doesn't really need adding to!). I'm currently three quarters of the way through The Supernatural Enhancements. Still not quite sure what to make of it. Has anybody else read it?
  5. Last night I finished The Scapegoat by Daphne Du Maurier I'm so disappointed I've finished it because I did not want to let it go. Its a long time since a book has got under my skin like that one has. Its a book that will be rattling around in my head for a very long time. Feel in need of some history so have just bought King Charles II by Antonia Fraser.
  6. Finished Black Butterfly by Mark Gatiss last night. A really fun read and quite a page turner! Continuing with: Horse Sense for People - Monty Roberts John Jasper's Secret - struggled through the first chapter, and I hope it picks up The Scapegoat - Daphne Du Maurier Born To Run
  7. I do find myself asking questions of The Scapegoat and then tell myself to "shut up and go with it!" Du Maurier has never disappointed me in the past, so I'm sure she won't this time. Have just bought The Strange Case of Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle on dvd, with Douglas Henshall and Tim McInnerney. Watched it ages ago on tv and loved it. Couldn't resist starting Mark Gatiss' Black Butterfly over the weekend. It was sat on my shelf calling to me, and I really fancied a fun read!
  8. Finished A Study in Scarlet last night I didn't expect it to be that good! I couldn't get through the pages fast enough it was so exciting. Thought I knew the story (from tv) but not really. Now concentrating on finishing : The Scapegoat - Daphne Du Maurier John Jasper's Secret Horse Sense for People - Monty Roberts
  9. I finished 2 books over the weekend! Yay! Finished I'm Shy Boy - Monty Roberts. Written for kids but I enjoyed it Finished Dead Water - Ngaio Marsh. Good light read, very much in the Agatha Christie vein. Getting on with A Study in Scarlet - The sudden shift of the scene to America was unexpected but its good! The Scapegoat also back on the main reading heap!
  10. I've been tempted to try one of those. They sound up my street. Should they be read in sequence? And if yes, which is the first? Also wanted to say I love your pic. The new Sherlock is fantastic, but when I read the books I always "see" Jeremy Brett. He was brilliant!
  11. I didn't even mention the ones I occasionally dip into!! Last night I decided I would concentrate on getting something finished and narrow the list! I'm reading Shy Boy - Monty Roberts (after tea) Dead Water - Ngaio Marsh (through the evening) A Study in Scarlet - Conan Doyle (in bed...who wouldn't want to snuggle up with Sherlock??)
  12. I went to see the film on Sunday. I read the book years ago and it creeped me out and the film did full justice to it. I got home in the dark and I was rushing to get in the door! I must read the book again because I'm sure the film was different in places. I thought it was way too scary for a 12A!!!
  13. I finished Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run, and loved it. Very inspirational. I have now started: John Jasper's Secret - haven't really concentrated on it yet The Scapegoat - Daphne du Maurier - interesting so far and I want to read it before the ITV adaptation is on Dead Water - Ngaio Marsh - good so far Born To Run - only just started but think I'm going to like it A Study in Scarlet - Conan Doyle - loving this and can't put it down. I'm surprised by how 'fresh' the writing is. I'd expected it to feel more 'Victorian'. Methinks I should get something finished before starting anymore!
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions!! The BBC adaptation was brilliant and I'm more than a little obsessed with John Jasper. I remember being like this about Bradley Headstone when I read Our Mutual Friend! Does anyone know if the BBC Edwin Drood is going to be released on dvd?? Close to finishing Can't Swim, Can't Ride, Can't Run. Halfway through Dead Water Not properly got going on John Jasper's Secret yet.
  15. Thanks for telling me about it! I don't know if it actually finishes the novel but the concept does sound interesting. I got a Complete Works of Dickens for my kindle and it includes John Jasper's Secret, which is someone else's attempt to finish the novel. I'm about to get stuck into that...when I've finished a few of the ones I've just started
