  1. Finished Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. Awesome book I loved it. Odd Thomas is a fry cook in Pico Mundo in the Mojave Desert.Odd Thomas sees dead people and has a compulsion to help them. Something bad is going to happen to Pico Mundo on the 15th of August. Odd Thomas is against the clock to avert disaster. The book starts on the 14th of August. This is a super fast paced supernatural thriller.

Dont do what I did though and read the synopsis of the sequels they give away a vital part of the plot. 10/10

  2. Hmm, well I'm not the biggest sci-fi buff out there (I feel as though I'm just starting out) so I don't have a lot to compare it to. My partner, who is more of a connoisseur and has read all three books, enjoyed them reasonably well.

I've only read the first one (a month or so ago) and enjoyed it well enough. My partner hinted that there was a twist or something unexpected in the second book, so of course I had to push it up the TBR pile to find out what would happen!

Overall, I wouldn't say I was overwhelmed by its brilliance or anything, but it was a pleasant enough read! (Sorry if this is of no help to you whatsoever. :P)

No thats great thanks I'll see if I can pick up copy on the cheap and stick it on my tbr shelves :D

  3. I just finished The Glass Bead Game by Hermann Hesse. This was sitting on my TBR pile for such a long time and I was always slightly daunted by it so I'm feeling quite a sense of achievement right now. :P

It was a pretty good read and gave me some food for thought, although it was a bit of a slog in places, most notably the introduction and the last 100 pages, which were fictional writings of the main character and didn't contribute much more to the preceding story.

I'm moving on to Deathworld 2 by Harry Harrison.

I've just read the blurb on amazon of the Deathworld books they sound great. Have you read the first book and if so is it as good as it sounds?

  4. Finished Fables:Arabian Nights(and Days) by Bill Willingham the 7th graphic novel in the series. Unfortunately I've Jumped from vol 2 to vol 7(I'm reading all that our library has) I've obviously missed swathes of storyline but it was still a cracking read. I will endeavor to catch up and continue this fantastic comicbook series. 9/10

  5. Do you have a 'notes' section on your mobile phone? If I don't have my bag with me (for whatever reason), I always have my mobile. I add books I see while I'm out to that and then add them to my notebook and Amazon Wishlist when I get home!

I thought it was just me that did this :D

As a fan of genre fiction I actually dont mind the fiction section being split up into genres and sub-genres. If I have'nt got a specific book or genre in mind I tend to wander around aimlessly until something catches my eye.

  6. I've only ordered once from Amazon.com (DVDs) a couple of years ago and I had no problems whatsoever. I put in a big book order the other day so I'll see how that goes. I think it'll be at least a month before they arrive though!

Thanks Kylie, I'll give it a go next week I think

  7. Finished Haunted by James Herbert. Great story about psychic investigator David Ash who has to investigate a haunting at a country mansion called Edbrook.

I love ghost stories and this up there with the best in my opinion, I also love James Herbert some I'm probably biased.

I read the Ghosts of Sleath which is the follow up to Haunted first, which whilst it did not spoil the story would have been better read in order. I saw the film before I read the book, that was a mistake as I knew the main twist when it came.Apart from the twist the film and the book are very different, the book much more satisfying than its celluloid counterpart. 9/10

  8. Finished The Frightened Gun by George G. Gilman 9/10. A 70's pulp western.

Also Finished Fables:Animal Farm(Graphic Novel) by Bill Willingham. Another tale of fairy story folk gone psycho. I love these comics, I'm looking forward to getting hold of the next installment Storybook Love.
