  1. The only series books that I have read are the Hobbit / Lord of the Flies etc books and then the Dark Tower (well, still reading the last few books) by Stephen King, oo and just remembered The Green Mile by King as well (came out in a mini sized book when it first came out). The only downside of series books is if you have a book thats not as good as the first 1 or 2 its a bit hard to pick up part 4. Either way they still get read
  2. Blimey, forgot about Pet Sematary - now that was a decent book and, in my opinion, the only decent book to film conversion ever. Still hide behind the pillow at some bits - the spooky little boy.
  3. After being disappinted with Stephen King as late, I have gone back to James Herbert and picked up The Secret of Crickley Hall and although I am only a third of the way through the book is amazing. Unlike the King books I have read lately, Herbert had me hooked onto this book within 3 or 4 chapters with a few chills running up and down my spine!! Has anyone else read this book and found the same things - addictable and quite spooky in places! Each night this book is being read and hope to have it finished soon, but to be honest this is one of the best books I have read for a while Only downside is the copy I have is hardback and its quite hard to hold that and a cup of tea in the bath
  4. There was me saying I was just about to read Duma Key and do a review and when I actually grabbed the book off my shelf its infact Just After Sunset. A friend has read that one and said that its one of the better books of late so fingers crossed!
  5. Sorry for not spotting this thread and starting another (only realised when I saw 11 pages on it!!) Well, after I finish my current book I will be onto Duma Key so hopefully will give a review shortly!
  6. Another victim of the credit crunch maybe - you feel as you are saving your fiver thanks to their loyalty voucher and they are still getting some money in under the 'get the fiver off when you spend 20'. They get 15 quid, you get the fiver off - both feel happy... Perhaps?
  7. Apologies for digging this thread back up but I have only just got round to reading Humble Pie after watching on TV and deciding that instead of my reconceptions of the guy being an arrogant bully he knows what he is doing and strives for perfection. The book, as has been said, kind of skimmed over the whole Ramsay rise to fame so we get to know something about him, his family and his restaurants there was always something held back. Saying that I read the book in two evenings as it was a tale I couldn't put down and I started to understand his quirks that we see on TV. I have now started the second book, Playing With Fire, so hoping that may fill in some of the gaps that seemed to be in the first one. Again, apologies about digging this one up!
  8. Desparation was a cracker - that was one of the finished in a week type books. Must admit I did enjoy the Dark Tower series as well - still have a few of the later ones to pick up and read.
  9. Evening all I have been an avid Stephen King reader for many years, but is it only me that, since Buick 8, the standard of his books are going downhill? I have read elsewhere that some of the books published under his name are in fact the works of his wife Tabitha - this, if true, may explain things. I remember the days when I would get through one of his books in three evenings because they are that good you get the 'one more chapter' thing going on where you can't put the book down. I always thought of him as a brilliant horror / thriller writer but haven't picked up his books (I have a stack left to read) for a while. Saying that I did get Duma Key for Christmas that after a quick read of the summary seems that he may be shifting back on track. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't me going mad
  10. Ah see, warmest welcome to a forum ever!
  11. Wasn't sure where to put this but thought I would just say hi. Been an avid reader for many moons and tended to read horror / thriller in particular Stephen King and James Herbert but I am now trying to expand my reading horizons (started by reading Gordon Ramsey biographies!) So happy new year and hope to chat a lot this year M.
