  1. I think there's always that nervousness/excitement before going back to classes; good luck! And yes, ankle will hopefully be ok in a few more days - I saw a physiotherapist Thursday and she confirmed it wasn't too serious and I just need a break. I'm going back next week, hopefully by then walking fine! Thank you Hope you're having a good Sunday!
  2. That is a great increase! I'm not anywhere close to that, but I think/hope this will be the first year I'll reach my 50 books goal - it seems in the last few years I've slowly gone up in numbers. It just depends on the month a lot for me, some I read more than others.
  3. I always get way too excited when there are online quizzes you can do with chapters Have a great time at the open day! --- I'm stuck inside for the next two days - running injury which has made my right ankle very painful (I'm on a running ban for at least a week). I have a long weekend so...I'll just put my feet up and read!
  4. I'm obviously not going to post notes all of a sudden for all the books I read this year, so I'll start with August 22. Born to Run by Christopher McDougall Goodreads description: An epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt? Isolated by Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons, the blissful Tarahumara Indians have honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury. In a riveting narrative, award-winning journalist and often-injured runner Christopher McDougall sets out to discover their secrets. In the process, he takes his readers from science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultra-runners are pushing their bodies to the limit, and, finally, to a climactic race in the Copper Canyons that pits America’s best ultra-runners against the tribe. McDougall’s incredible story will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that you, indeed all of us, were born to run. Personal Note I started reading this after doing a bit of research on the best books about trail running and ultra-running. I had read a few books before that left me very inspired, and since I've started running a lot more, I'm always looking for inspiration! This book in particular seems to be one of the best, comes recommended on every site and by every runner. It was very good. I hadn't heard about the Tarahumara people, their view of life and community is fascinating. The book is filled with information about running, not in a "lesson" type of way (which is exactly what I don't want), but through the various anecdotes, you pick things up. Very well written, although I felt at times some of the descriptions were a bit long - I think that's more particular to me than anything. Highly recommend the book! Rating: 5/5
  5. I finished Born to Run by Christopher McDougall - I'm very much into reading books about running, mostly trail running, and this was very good! I'm now reading Sunset Song by Lewis Grassic Gibbon; it's taken me a bit of time to get used to the writing style, but I like it so far.
  6. I've had this on my TBR list for a while, I think it's time to actually go ahead and read it!
  7. Because you know...an answer 3 months later, is better than no answer I definitely didn't find it all doom and gloom, and actually thought it was better than the movie? Which I did like! Just, the book seemed somewhat more realistic.
  8. I've had a few good ones this year, but I'll go with "Run or Die" by Kilian Jornet and "The Examined Life" by Stephen Grosz.

Rowling Leo Tolstoy Dean Koontz Alexander Pushkin Stephen King Robert Ludlum James Patterson Irving Wallace J. R. R. Tolkien C. S. Lewis Dan Brown Paulo Coelho Stephenie Meyer Anne Rice Lewis Carroll Hermann Hesse
  10. I always use bookmarks - I keep any free bookmark, and friends usually bring me some from trips; it's handy, as I usually have a few books started in the same time.

  13. A bit late, but happy reading! I'll be doing a half read-a-thon as unfortunately I have some studying to do today, but most of my afternoon and tomorrow should be spent reading. Currently reading "Life, the Universe, and Everything" by Douglas Adams.
  14. Finished "Exercitii de echilibru", beautiful book and nice to read a bit in Romanian (I've been doing that more often, my favourite bookshop in Romania delivers internationally). I think I'll start "The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake" by Aimee Bender today.

  21. I use Goodreads to track what I've read, but that's only happened in the recent years. Unfortunately I never really kept track before, and I would have liked to have a list.
