  1. Personally, I'd say both of these characters are already pretty well defended because both books in question explain the extenuating circumstances for why these characters behaved as they did.
  2. Well, that's me all caught up on my Graphic Novels. I guess I should go find a regular book to read . . .
  3. To be fair though, it has had a good run!
  4. Iain M Banks. The Player of Games is my favourite.
  5. A whole slew of shows have been chopped over the last few weeks, Agent Carter is at the top of my list of pain.
  6. Aggressively forcing users to update is just plain wrong; it should always be the user's choice what they do with the their computer. I'm surprised this isn't getting them into trouble from a legal POV.
  7. By coincidence, my PC at work is going to be upgraded to Windows 10 tomorrow. I have used it to test software in the past, and found it far better to use than 8/8.1, but how well this goes will determine whether I upgrade at home as well.
  8. They want everyone on the same, supportable OS - they don't want the same situation they had with XP where people were still using it 10 years after it was released.
  9. There is no guarantee that will stop it installing; Windows will quite often install updates on shut down even if set to ask your permission first. I have turned the automatic updates on my PC off altogether and go through the list of updates and remove the Windows 10 one every time I run updates manually. Look for update KB 3035583; this is the one that will start the upgrade and is now listing as an Important Update. If already installed, this can be removed from your computer using add/remove programs (you will need to check the box to list Windows updates as well).
  10. The Kindle edition is now listing as 20th October!
  11. God is crying because we killed all the Dodos. He really liked Dodos . . .
  12. From Google, just now: So June was right, until very recently at least... Anyway, quoting Australian dates is a misnomer anyway because everyone knows it takes longer to print type upside down.
  13. Moby Dick. Started twice now, never finished. One day...
  14. It was supposed to be June, I think. Not seen anything on Ben's Twitter feed about it being put back.
  15. Half interest in this; I don't really get on with Dick's novels, but most of the screen adaptations of his work are pretty good, so I'm hopeful. Ron (Star Trek/Battlestar Galactica) Moore's involvement is interesting as well.
  16. Captain America: Civil War Quite possibly the best Marvel film yet.
  17. *urge to reply to great* sOmeTImEs i uSe kRayONs (I may be drinking holiday beer at the moment!)
  18. Batman vs. Superman It pains me to say this, as I quite enjoyed Man of Steel, but this was a bit of a train wreck. It started well, with an opening that nicely sets up Bruce Wayne's animosity towards ole Supes, but after that the logic of the film (which has an alien who can fly and a man who dresses as a bat) slowly unravels as the story goes along. Both Gal Godot as Wonder Woman and Ben Affleck as Batman are pretty good, and there are some nice touches here and there, but the overall feel is one of someone stringing together a series of iconic moments with kinetic action sequences, and that's just not enough to hold a film together. Oh, and some humour please; films can be serious and still have humour in them! Civil War on Friday!
  19. ^ Well, we will have to wait until next year to find out, but I don't think you are a million miles away from what it will be.
  20. ^ I'd say give it a go. It's not very long, should only take half an hour or so to read, but it is a pretty good story.
  21. Me too, but, alas . . . I'm sure the new actress will be very good and the character will be great etc. but part of me is wondering if they will ever cast a male companion again. At the moment, the only way I can see that happening is if we get a female Doctor. Pearl Mackie has picked up over 4,000 Twitter followers in the last 20 minutes!
  22. The new Doctor Who companion is being announced live on Saturday night, at half time, during the FA Cup final that is on (should be around 6pm). W00t!

    Rest in Peace

Who let George RR Martin write the script for 2016? This is another major celebrity death that I have no real in to (I think my only real experience of Prince is the Batman soundtrack in '89).
  24. I got a Samsung Galaxy A3 last August on an EE contract that is only £14.99 a month. I like it, as it's not one of these stoopid size slabs and although it fits nicely in my pocket, it is large enough that you don't have to squint at everything.
