  1. I used to be able to tune out any background noise and be completely absorbed in my reading, but I have found that since getting a bit older I need peace and quiet so I can concentrate.
  2. I often buy a book following a recommendation from a friend with similar reading tastes or after reading thoughts and reviews here on BCF, I also read the blurb online and download if i like the sound of it. I do buy books just because I like a certain author or series of books as well. Before I had a kindle I visited book shops a lot more and was more likely to impulse buy because I liked the cover.
  3. I agree with you! I didn't like the two main characters at all and really didn't care what happened to either of them, though I did like Go's character . I thought the ending was a major let down too.
  4. I read, thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend! Khaled Hosseini ~ And The Mountains Echoed Then I returned to and finished reading Gone Girl ~Gillian Flynn, it did improve for me but I was quite disappointed with it for various reasons. I have now down loaded Philippa Gregory ~ The White Queen and The Red Queen and a couple of thrillers that were on offer from Amazon. Now to decide what to read next
  5. Hello Noll, hope you're feeling a bit better/less stressed now, take care and 'see' you around
  6. I tried sticking with Gone Girl for a bit longer but could feel my mojo slipping away! so I put it back on the shelf and will go back to it another time I am now three quarters of the way through And The Mountains Echoed ~ Khaled Hosseini such a good story and I love the way he writes.
  7. I finished The Bones of Avalon ~ Phil Rickman, I really enjoyed it and will definately be looking out for a sequel. Today I started Gone Girl ~ Gillian Flynn I haven't read much but I'm struggling all ready! so I think I will put it to one side and try again at a later date, I think it's my mood and not the book that's the problem so I might read some Sherlock Holmes instead.
  8. Hello frankie Happy 5th Anniversary! Glad you enjoyed The Help it certainly is 'a keeper', have you seen the film of it? I haven't cause I don't want to be disappointed!
  9. totally with Frankie, you won't be disappointed with the next 2!
  10. Glad you enjoyed it and think it's as good as the others, I just downloaded it and look forward to reading it I started The Bones of Avalon today and I'm enjoying it so far I also had an email saying that Police (The new Harry Hole story) by Jo Nesbo is out in September! I'm really looking forward to reading it.
  11. I've treated myself to a kindle paperwhite and I am loving it so I have downloaded a few books (cause it had to be done even though it's a replacement and I've got plenty to read without buying more!) I have just finished A Feast For Crows - George R.R. Martin, it took me a while to get into it but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have also downloaded: A Dance With Dragons (parts 1 & 2) George R.R. Martin And The Mountains Echoed - Khaled Hosseini The Bones of Avalon - Phil Rickman, I've enjoyed the Merrily watkins series by him so look forward to this one. There are more books but too many to list, enough to keep me going for a while anyway! I've also got Gone Girl - Gillian Flynn, on the book shelf ready.
  12. Since I was last here I have read; Phantom - Jo Nesbo. I thought it was excellent! Thursdays in the Park - Hilary Boyd. Enjoyable, feel good, quick read. Marley and Me - John Grogan. I absolutely loved it, most of the book I was laughing out loud it was so funny, I want a dog like Marley The Greenhouse - Audur Ava Olafsdottir, another easy read, I enjoyed it.
  13. Unfortunately, PAM is currently available only with the pserver access method, and the authentication tokens are transmitted with only trivial encryption Unfortunately, Pam's logging days were over and Mike was now the laughing stock of the birding world, so they needed new careers (unfortunately PAM is very unhelpful for debugging).
  14. Thank you Janet It does help, my mind was totally blank! (nothing new lately!!) Thanks for the help Frankie! I'm certain Jo Nesbo will continue to keep the mojo happy and content.
  15. I've finished my first book of the year my first book for about 4 months actually! I'm so happy and relieved. It's The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared - Jonas Jonasson. Such a good read full of surprises! Frankie I love Sonya! (I was going to give my favourite example but can't do spoilers ) so I'm thinking of it instead. It is hard to top that you're so right. My next read will be Phantom - Jo Nesbo. I'm so looking forward to it
  16. I have been a bit confused at times as well and had to go back to check names and details, but on the whole I've really enjoyed it, it's certainly full of surprises!
  17. I too have a lot of books on mount TBR, many I've bought myself, I do enjoy browsing book shops and charity shops to see what jumps out at me but quite a few have been given to me. I am inclined to buy books that have been given good reviews on the forum if they appeal to me and I do like it when friends find a book on my shelf that they fancy reading and want to borrow, it helps to ease my guilt of having so many unread books waiting while I still buy new ones I find that the books I download to my kindle I don't feel so guilty about, probably because they're out of sight! I do feel that I should buy less and use the library a bit more though.
  18. Thank you frankie I think getting back to normal after a stressfull lead up to christmas did the trick. I've nearly finished The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared have you read it? It's got just about everything in it you could want, including quirky humour - definately worth a read.
  19. I'm happy to say that my reading mojo has resurfaced and I'm reading for pleasure again instead of forcing myself to read! It's like finding a long lost friend
  20. That's real will power! I find that having a kindle I can ignore the length of my TBR pile, cause it's not taking up shelf space
  21. Most definately! Phantom is going to boost my mojo which is just begining to resurface after doing a runner.
  22. They are great reads aren't they, The Snowman has definately been my favourite but I've enjoyed all of them - I love Harry Hole, what a character.
  23. Thanks for the help and sympathy I've tried coaxing the missing mojo back but that hasn't worked so now I'm trying to be hard! I'm making myself pick up my kindle and read at least two chapters a day of my last downloaded book - The 100 Year Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window.......a book I think I should enjoy, my reward if I finish it will be to download Phantom - Jo Nesbo. If that doesnt work nothing will
  24. My reading mojo did a runner a few weeks ago and there's still no sign of it! I thought once the Christmas rush was over maybe things would improve but i was wrong. I've started a few books but nothing's bringing it back - I guess it's a case of sitting back and waiting for it to put in an appearance. Hope it comes back soon, I miss it.
  25. Happy New Year Everyone!
