  1. I got my email last night & will be giving away books for the 2nd year in a row as well. I got my first choice last year & this year & this year I will be giving out copies of Alexander McColl Smith's The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I'll be going to our local hospital, a local hospice & to the YMCA's Space. Really looking forward to it.
  2. Almost a year since yu were last here. Hope all is well. Happy Birthday. X

  3. Absolutely, just let me know if/when you want to read it!
  4. Janet, I read The Attack for my challenge - I'd be happy to send you my copy of it if you'd like? Great list & you're doing really well! Better than I am. Mucho impressed!!
  5. Some interesting thoughts! Personally, I do not necessarily disagree with it - if it is going to be given to young children to read, then maybe the sanitised version is better? As an adult, I would not choose to read a redacted version, I think I'm adult enough to understand that that word is not now acceptable, but is an integral part of the story. The changing of Injun Joe & half breed bother me more, funnily enough.
  6. Not sure if anyone here has heard about this, or if any of you have been following this, but I would love to hear what people think! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/craig-hotchkiss/finn-rewrite-twists-twain_b_805776.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/05/mark-twain-new-editions-offensive-words_n_804523.html Is the publisher justified? Are they destroying history? Is it censorship?
  7. I've added a few books & have a few in mind to read over the next few months, hoping to be up to 35 by the end of 2011.
  8. Hi Janet! Thank you so much for the birthday wishes!

  9. Happy birthday - I hope you're having a good day. :)

  10. I'm currently reading The Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg, which I am loving & am waiting for a couple books from Per Petterson from Amazon. I haven't read any of Henning Mankell's books, but I just had a couple arrive today. I'm loving my Scandinavian crime & can't wait to read more!
  11. Hey stranger! I'm good thx, a bit sore these days but ok. How've you been? I haven't seen you on here in ages :(

  12. I bought 2 books today - Burr by Gore Vidal & The Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg (which is my Swedish entry for my reading challenge).

    Scotland

So there is a better than 50% chance that I will be moving to Scotland in about 3 months time & I am in need of some advice from those of you who are living there already. We'll be moving to the St. Andrews area for my work, but it would seem that finding accommodation is not going to be all that easy in St. Andrews proper. So my questions are: Anyone know Fife very well? Anyone able to tell me how easy it would be to commute from outside of St. Andrews, relying on public transportation & bicycle? Anyone know areas we should avoid or that you would recommend over any others?
  14. Hey you! How's things?

  15. Sara, looks like you're doing great on this challenge! (Far better than me with mine, lol). I searched for ages for a book by an Andoran author - didn't find one, so have left it in the hopes that one will be published by the time I get back to it. Good luck with finishing it!
