  1. Yeah I could get a copy of Neverwhere in English from play.com but it hasn't been such a high priority to me that I would've ordered it already. I'm hoping to get it from the library eventually :)

Believe you me I've been telling my BF to get a move on with Good Omens for so many times with no effect!! He had my Stephen Fry's Hippopotamus for almost a year :irked: I've been thinking about temporarily stealing Good Omens though like you suggested. Maybe I could steal it at the same time I steal his ugly mustard yellow colored T-shirt that he wears too proudly, knowing I hate it ;) (It used to belong to BF's dad but BF's mum hated it and passed it on to my BF. I bet she didn't realise she was passing on her T-shirt problems to me...)

BF's are so much trouble sometimes... But they sure are great have, too :smile2:

  2. Well as a Gaiman fan you must get your hands on The Graveyard Book soon! :smile2: Neverwhere is also on my list, but I haven't managed to find it yet as an English version. I'm also keen on reading Good Omens but that's the exact book which my BF has at the moment, he's had it for 2 months now and he still hasn't even started it!

I started The Pyjama Boy last night and it is quite gloomy, but you were right, it's also light in the way it's written, I really like it! I can't wait to finish it! But really, how could you dislike the little cute 9 year old boy  That's harsh *LOL*

  3. I've read Gaiman's Stardust + The Graveyard Book and though they were alright, I didn't really take to them as much as I had expected to. But I'll definitely give Anansi Boys a go someday. I've heard great things about American Gods as well so may have to read that one too :)

I guess I'm really in for a surprise with Boy in Striped Pyjamas. I mean the blurb says there's no point in giving away the whole story so read it yourself, and for some reason I take it to mean that it's a gloomy book but now you say that it's a light read  I really don't know what to expect so I had better just read it.

If your BF only likes Night Watch series, maybe you could gently, slowly, secretly push him into other Pratchett's books and after that sort of mention about other fabulous fantasy novels.. ;) But I guess you've already tried. Don't worry, my BF doesn't read much more than your BF, just a bit. And when he borrows a book from me it'll take him 3-4 months to give it back :irked:

  4. Oh you seem to be reading Anansi Boys at the moment, how are you finding it? It's on my TBR, my boyfriend has recommended it to me but I haven't found the time or the inspiration to read it yet.

  5. Well I sure know what you mean. Changing your settings, discussing important books on your fave forum and taking the Daily Quiz gets easily in the way of Uni work :tong: And yeah, isn't this place amazingly friendly? I've been here since last August-September, and I'm still occasionally surprised how pleasant these people are. There no forum like BCForum.

You added about 15 to your TBR already?? Oh my, just wait till you've been here a couple of months longer

I managed to finish The Black Dahlia today, I'm thinking I might start James Ellroy's memoir called My Dark Places, or maybe I'll go with John Boyne's The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. I think I have too many books to choose from, the choosing gets harder and harder each time I'm supposed to start another book... :)

  6. Naughty smiley, didn't wish to be left at the end of the sentence so instead it cut in between the proposition and ... (don't leave me grammar now grammar!) .. here-word :P

  7. Hiya Nicola :)

Wow I love what you've done to your profile page, really artsy! You seem to be settling in :Dhere just fine!

  8. Morning!

Indeed, your trip to the cinema sounded quite memorable! I hope all came out of it alive. I wouldn't mind having someone to take to the loos at the end so I could miss the dog dying part... Do you think other people would mind if I started asking if anyone needs to go?

I just woke up at 8 o'clock to the sound of someone drilling at the nextdoor neighbor's bathroom. Funny thing was, they were drilling for 20 seconds tops and then they stopped. Just as I had already climbed out of my bed thinking there's no use trying to sleep. After that it's been quiet, just a little soft vacuuming. Why did I get up??

  9. Oh my, I almost forgot! How was Marley??:)

  10. Hiya Mac! :006:

I'll be waiting for the blog ;)

  11. frankie

Well I probably will now that you put the idea in my head ;)

  12. frankie

Yes, we should do this again sometime!

  13. frankie

    Bloody hell!

I would just like to say that any penis involved conversation was instigated by ii, not me! She used evil tactics (=foreign language)!

Oh my, this is going to be a good day :)

  14. frankie

    Hi!

    L-O-L

But doesn't the shoehorn (wow, I just learned a new word in English) just add to the width of the penis? And as they probably don't make shoehorns that would caress the actual shape of the penis it would probably be all wrong. (What would they call it, penishorn?) But on the other hand, I guess that's the point, making as much damage as possible... *evil grin* What a splendid image, thank you so much for this conversation!

  15. Goooood morning Charm!

Yep yep, us bookworms will both be fine, it's just a matter of time :) I think this forum has done so much good for both of us. I've never ever been on a forum that's so welcoming and friendly as this! I'll probably never get used to it

I'm a member on a Finnish forum that's for Jane Austen fans but also discusses other literature as well. I was really active on there before I found BCF, but it was kind of embarrasing because there were about 10 other active members and it seemed like they never bought books. I was always posting on What did you buy -thread and soon enough the thread was just a monologue by me! That was so embarrasing... I say once you go BCF, you can never go back. (sorry, that doesn't rhyme!)

I hope you had fun last night with hubby :D

  16. And congratulations on the anniversary! 20 years is sure long, it's amazing! I can't even grasp it  Wee mini celebration sounds nice, bottoms up! And remember, when the bottle's cracked open, then it's just you and him, and you'd better keep off the forum and posting!

  17. On/off for 15 years? That's a long time :friends0: I'm glad that you were diagnosed as having post natal depression, there are so many women who've given birth and are depressed but don't know what's really going on. It makes all the difference to know exactly what's going on than just to feel bad and not know.

I remember you were recovering from a back operation last fall and couldn't really get around and about much. Weren't you in bedrest for many weeks? Those kinds of physical problems that limit normal life for longer periods of time are sure to bring one down =( I suppose it was around that time when you discovered BCF? At least one good thing came out of it :smile2: Good luck with the GP, I hope it'll work out for you!

  18. Yep the financial stress definitely didn't help, but now I know I'll be financially safe til autumn so that's great. Another thing that bummed me out was that my psychologist retired, she warned me two months beforehand but that felt really sudden to me at that moment. I knew I was getting another shrink but that didn't really help because I didn't know if I'd get along with the new one. But now I've met her and I think it'll be fine. And I'm glad that you were sorted out as well :friends0: It's amazing how many people there are on the forum who suffer/have suffered from depression, but then again, it shouldn't be that weird because it's actually quite common.

There's nothing wrong with getting in the mood to buy books :D Besides, I just saw you writing to Kylie about NOT buying Dr Jekyll & Mr Hyde on TWO different occasions and that's just not cool. Kylie liked it, I liked it, what else do you need? :motz::lol:

Yep I'm not rushing on Dorian Gray at all anymore :/

  19. Oh yeah and the mental type: I suffer from depression and the meds I've been taking for 1,5 years didn't work anymore and have been trying out new meds which have not been any better either. But worry not, I have an appointment with a psychiatrist and I have total confidence that she'll find something that'll suit me better :)

Yep, I'm excited about The R Girls and Dexter as well :smile2: and I just noticed that the fourth Dexter (D by Design) came out 19th of Feb in UK so I will order that one too.

Yeah I noticed you've been reading that Charlaine Harris' series. I read your review on it and it seemed really interesting and well, I did order that one too from play.com  Hey, everybody seems to be reading it, and you as well, so it can't be bad! I definitely wouldn't be ordering this much from play.com if it weren't so damned cheap! (I usually go for the used ones)

  20. Bloody hell, I'm sure there was a thread yesterday morning that said Tess Gerritsen was going to be a featured author. But now that you brought it up, it might just be that it was an old post and someone had newly posted on it and I thought it was a brand new thread :irked: I couldn't even find the thread anymore even though I searched for it. Oh well, gives me plenty more time to take up on The Surgeon .. :lurker:

The problems that I've been having are of financial and mental type: I haven't been getting the money that I'm due as a student (because of some minor error) and I've been in the midst of a paper war that I've waged against certain bureaucratic instancies! Meaning, I've been awfully poor lately, paying rent late and eating cheap but tasteless food, and not being able to visit BF. But alas! I received a notice last week that money is on its' way (hence a big fat order placed in play.com) and today it finally came and I did a little book shopping. Can't be blamed for that!

  21. Oooh, btw, I just got Dexter in the Dark today, as well as The Rosary Girls. I couldn't help but order them online and they've arrived. I'm feeling real giddy :D

  22. I've found that play.com suits my student budget the best :) And not least because of the free shipping. Besides, the variety of books is amazing, I probably wouldn't find half of the books I've ordered from there in Finnish online bookshops let alone in any Finnish bookstores. Internet is an amazing thing :)

  23. Hi Inver, and thanks :) I did a little research on play.com and I could get a used copy of Blue Diary quite cheap from there, so I'm probably going to order it from there. A friend of mine is interested in it as well so she'll get a chance to read it too. The postage overseas isn't that cheap. I think the Royal Mail should consider giving BCF book ring deliveries a discount! It would enhance the ... mmm.. cultural diversity and... social dispositions?

    Thanks for the thought :D

  24. She has been here before? I didn't know that. What we're dealing with here is a very powerful forum indeed! I just hope she's not coming until I've had the time to read The Surgeon

I didn't know that about the elephants and raised trunks, pure coincidence. I was just googling animal&love because I wanted to find cute pics of different types of animals getting together. When I saw that pic I immediately wanted to have it as my avatar :) Maybe it'll bring me some luck too, I've had a couple of rough months. But things are looking up now, I think :) But how are you? It feels like I haven't chatted with you in ages which is probably true, I haven't been feeling very sociable lately... =/

  25. Charm, have you noticed? Tess Gerritsen is going to be a featured author on here :icon_eek: Now I really must read her books.

Wait a second, did you have something to do with her coming here?? I was going to read her books eventually, you didn't have to do this...
