  1. I loved that too! No one else seems to have heard of it :-(Also.... Dead Like Me American Gothic Studio 60.... West Wing Newsroom Northern Exposure Not sounding very british am I? How about: Hamish Macbeth Chandler & Co
  2. I don't like McEwan either - miserabilist!I'm after a character in one of my fave films - Marion from Raiders of the Lost Ark!
  3. Notes from an Exhibition by Patrick Gale A wonderful book - flits back & forth through time, different chapters from the perspective of the different family members of a renowned but mentally unstable artist... possibly sounds a bit grim, but I found it strangely uplifting
  4. Totally agree. I thought my problem with Wuthering Heights was that I read it in my cynical 30s, rather than as a romantic/hormonal teenager... Can I put Atonement out there? McEwan - Miserable!
  5. Long time no speak! Thanks for birthday greetings!

  6. Ah Anika how I wish as was as strong as you! I've had a couple of particularly unpleasant or annoying reading experiences, yet I've felt compelled to complete them - why, why, why when as you said there are so many better books out there?
  7. I've still got some that I should have read when I did my degree back in (ahem) 1994 that I still haven't finished/got around to opening! (Hello Dante!) They look great on the shelf though!
  8. So, saw this list in the Times today: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/books/book_reviews/article6914181.ece embarrassed that I have only read a handful! But what do you think should have been in there?
  9. Lucky you! I've just finished Tattoo, and need to get my grubby mitts on Fire. Hope there's more Lisbeth, less Mikael! (Sorry I found all the financial/Wennerstrom stuff a bit dull!)
  10. Last thing I saw was Up in 3D (it was my birthday treat!) Hubby & I loved it- kids got so scared they threw away the 3d glasses!
  11. That sucks - what is wrong with the American networks???? Don't they understand that people want interesting, challenging drama? Firefly & Serenity anyone? Whedon rules!
  12. I tend to go straight to the next one that's waiting, but I do usually have 2 or 3 on the go at the same time.... usually lying around in different rooms, so I'll pick up whatever's nearest
  13. Even though they messed up Northern Lights/The Golden Compass, I really wanted the sequel to make it to the screen - I so wanted to see Will and the Subtle Knife
  14. Thank you for the pointers! I like the look of these - now just got to narrow it down!
  15. Sorry if this is cheeky - my reading group have asked me to pick the next book, and I have no clue what to pick! The few suggestions I had didn't seem to be met with any great enthusiasm! (Maybe I should join a new group????) Anyway, we'd like something quite contemporary, with ideas we can discuss (the last few choices seemed a bit lightweight and descended into discussions about the kids, schools....). One book we did all enjoy was Notes from an Exhibition by Patrick Gale, so something else of a similar ilk would be great.... Your help is MUCH appreciated!
  16. I'm with BookJumper - found the bit with the witch floating through the window somewhat chilling - but the book as a whole did nothing for me.... which I found rather disappointing after struggling through to the end.
  17. Me either - cool, new music to discover!
  18. You really do need one! Mine is my "Plug in baby"! On genius playlist I got: Plug in baby - Muse (natch) Butterflies & Hurricanes - Muse again (yay) Fill my little world - the Feeling Wires - Athlete Worried about Ray - The Hoosiers Stop me - Mark Ronson Set the fire to the third bar - Snow Patrol Pass it on - The Coral Map of the problematique - more Muse Life on Mars - David Bowie
  19. Not stuck to my chair, though I think I felt heavy (then again it was what, 10:50 on a Friday night? At the end of a long week who doesn't feel heavy???) I did guess that she was going to pick the giraffe toy, as I'd spotted the giraffe placements around the shop - but I still don't get how he named it Frank????
  20. Harmless Saturday night fun - with dragons! What's not to like?
  21. Ha! I guessed that one too - all we need now is that Bond theme....
  22. Hope you enjoy it Catwoman! They are strangely addictive....
