  2. I'm fine, thanks. A little distracted, busy.

  3. I thought the film was good too, but that the end result in the character of Briony was watered down in the movie. I love "Anne of Green Gables" and the series, but I did find it a little long winded at times, while the movie, which I grew up on and could play back by memory, I believe, has few faults... Except for the third installment, which was absolute hypocrisy!
  4. "X-Files: I Want to Believe." I was so mad that I had wasted $10 on that crapy movie! I new the reviews were not good, but I grew up on X Files, and I figured for nostalgia's sake it would be fun, but it was just upsetting. It was ****.
  5. I think one of my favorite characteristic that I find in people is what I would call a teachable spirit. That's one of the reason's I like Emma so much. She does deserve to fall on her face, just like all of us do at some point. When she does, she uses the situation to grow into something better. I love that. When we screw up, it is so easy to get defensive because our pride is hurt, but in doing so we can miss the opportunity to became the better version of ourselves. I always image Emma as a better Mrs. Knightly because of the humiliation that she walked and grew through.
  6. Ronda. Welcome to the Forum.

I wanted to apologize if my post was offensive in any way, or caused doubt in your further participation. There are and always will be too many wonderful books out there, books that I should know more about or should have already read. I am ashamed that any on my discussion would be read as cruel. My desire was to vent my frustration as well as to share some of the humor in the silliness of the human-kind that I found so well highlighted in my current situation; not to be degrading. I shall have to continue to work on my one narrative skills I guess.

I hope you stick around the Forum, and find some discussions that you enjoy. God bless.

  7. Wow. That sounds amazing. Please post the link. I would love to check it out.
  8. If you went South 95, then you were about 15 miles from my home town, but if you went South 85, then you passed by a sign for Dinwiddie on the way through. That's were I am from and were my family still lives. Now I live in Chester off of 95, south of Richmond. What about you? I've been to Long Beach, and I went to the city for a day. I hope to go back again sometime soon. A friend of mine has a sister in Long Beach.

  9. Hi there. I saw your avatar. It's cute. You are from my region of the world! Do you live in the city, or in NY state? I am from VA myself.

  10. I think I am going through that now. I have decided that I am not ready to reread that book that I finished, but I am having a hard time moving on, at least moving on to any serious reading... Here I can Emily Loring and Dean Koontz.
  11. I love your quote! My little sis use to have it on one of her school notebooks.

    Your Age?

27, about to be 28. High school reunion is this fall. blah.
  13. Welcome Emma. I hope you have fun with the forum!
  14. Hello. Thanks for the friend request.

  15. Okay: I challenge you to make a short list of things that you would want to read in a book club. Remember that these are people of all different age groups and preferences. All women, so far. They all like reading different genre's.
  16. I love reading classics. I started several years ago and still feel like I am behind. I have a hard time answering those question "what's your all time favorite book?" because the more I read, the more I realize that there are tons of amazing books out there that I still haven't read.
  17. These are all great ideas. The club will be with women from work, so I am a little nervous about picking books. I think I will bring suggested reading list and have people pick, or suggest another. I am afraid that if I don't bring some suggestions, I will end up with a chic-lit club: fun, but not what I am looking for.
  18. Usually if I loose my reading mojo, it due to the fact that I am stuck in a book that I no longer want to read. Usually if I put the book down and read something else, I can get back my mojo and usually pick the old book up later on to finish it.
  19. Innumerable! On top of the various things I find along the way, I have this great book that my mom gave me called The Well Educated Mind: A Guide to the Classical Education You Never Had by Susan Wise Bauer. It has a great list of fiction, biographies, histories, plays and poetry to read, and she shared how to read different types of works in order to absorb and learn the most from them. I sort of alternate between her suggested reading and the things that I want to read on my own.
  20. Anyone ever started a book club? How did you select books? What tips do you have on book clubs? I have never been in a book club, but want to be, so I am going to try to start one.
  21. I think I am definately going to have to re-read I Capture the Castle. It's been a week, and I am not mourning it anymore, but I'm still missing it.
  22. 1. I'm very, very single, sadly. 2. I was sent to a reading clinic when I was six because reading was very difficult for me to pick up. I was angry about it then, but have since apologized to my mom, because now I love reading very much. 3. I have a strong desire to write, but I feel ill equipped. In fact I think that the writing would not be difficult I someone else would provide the plot. That is the hardest part I think. 4. I am a pediatric nurse. I use to be very squeamish, and worried at times that I have chosen the wrong profession because of that. Right after I got out of school I was reaching for a seven year old boy's arm because I was going to get his axillary temperature. He grabbed my hand and vomited in it like in was a bowl! I asked him if he was okay, if he needed to get sick again. He said he felt better. I excused myself to wash my hand, and while I washed (thoroughly) I looked at myself in the mirror and thought "your going to make it!" I didn't freak out or get sick of gag. I was finally sure that I chose okay -- if I can get through a kid vomiting in my hand, I can get through about anything, medically speaking. 5. I am an introvert with extrovert spurts. I think that I am good at pretending to be an extrovert if I need to, but I am happy alone as well.
