I've just started Marina Lewycka's Two Caravans, which I'm very hopeful about having enjoyed the deservedly popular Short History of Tractors in Ukrainian.
A few weeks ago my boss gave me Joe Hebden's : Muffin Heaven, which follows an attempt to open a cafe-cum-community centre in a remote rural location in northern England. The fictional story is quite topical because it touches on the issue of Tibet, though not in an overtly political way. I found the book funny and full of interesting ideas; you really get a flavour of the unique countryside, and a strong feeling of compassion for the 'human condition'.
