  5. Correct The Book of Lost Things is John Connolly. Sheridan Hay's book is called The Secret of Lost Things.
  6. Waterstones is absolutely my favourite shop, the staff are friendly(not pushy) and extremely knowledgeable. That's where I feel comfortable to browse and know that I will not be pounced on as soon as I walk into the shop.
  7. Bought The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest this morning at Waterstones (
  8. Just got my parcel from Amazon containing the hardback of Hilary Mantel's - Wolf Hall. I don't usually buy hardbacks so this is a big treat. Will have to read Drowning Man very quickly, that won't be difficult though as it is a real page turner.
  9. Finished reading Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood. Slow start to the story but when the suspense begins to build up and the main characters develop I couldn't put the book down.Read it in two days.Looking forward to reading The Flood in the near future.Meanwhile I will be reading Drowning Man - Michael Robotham the second book he has written. His first book The Suspect was one of the best thriller books I have read recently.
  10. Stieg Larsson's third book is in the book shops on Thursday,it's called The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. Can't wait to get reading it.
  11. Halfway through Oryx and Crake and I'm really enjoying it.
  12. Just finished reading The Suspect - Michael Rowbotham, a psychological thriller with a brilliant ending that I had not sussed out. If you like Cracker you will love this. Complete change of genre will be reading Oryx and Crake next, then Michael Rowbotham's second book which is The Drowning Man.
  13. Welcome to the forum Lauren
  14. I can read at every opportunity. Always have a read at bedtime, propped up with comfy pillows. Then I will read at every available moment of my day, even while waiting for things to cook and kettles to boil etc. This means that I am either perched on a stool, sat in an armchair or at the table eating my lunchtime sarnie. Most of the time I don't worry about creased spines as I think that a book should be enjoyed.Of course there are some exceptions ie books that I know I will definitely be keeping.
  15. Oh goody there will be loads in the charity shops soon !
  16. Tonight I will be cooking poached salmon with broccoli, courgettes, carrots and sweet potatoes.
  17. Started to read and was prepared to be terrified ,when I realised that these books needed to be read in sequence,so I am now reading the first one (which I just happened to have) called The Suspects.
  18. I really enjoyed The Ghost at the Table, good pick for book club discussion.
  19. Just finished I Victoria - Cynthia Harrod-Eagles. Never read any of her books before and it has been sitting on one of my book shelves for ages. Found it historically interesting as I knew very little about Queen Victoria, but will probably not read this author again. Starting on Shatter - Michael Robotham. The blurb says it is a terrifying psychological thriller and is going to delve into the darkess recesses of my mind.
  20. Yes thanks I am well no nasty cold germs yet.

I was interested to know why you were reading 'the Girl'. Have Googled Larsson to find out a bit more about him and it was an eye-opener,I hadn't any idea that he had worked for Expo. He and his partner must have been under enormous pressure with the constant death threats. There are some people like Larsson who really try to make a difference, even putting their own lives at risk. So many dreadful things are happening in the world every day many of which we know can never be fully resolved however hard these dedicated people work.

Working for Human Rights must be extremely frustrating and so rewarding when there is a positive result. I admire your choice of career.

Hope today has been a good one for you and all those germs have gone.

    Cheers pickwick :)

  21. Hi I hope that you are now feeling a lot better, try and stick with the book it really does get easier I very nearly gave up on it.

  23. 'You work for a murder squad?' Sarah asked, arching her dark eyebrows,as if the idea was extraordinary. Our Lady of Pain - Elena Forbes.
