  1. Oh yes, I love The Wire, and I loved Homicide as well, by the same people. I remember a few years back my mum was quite ill, and One Foot In The Grave was the only thing that made her laugh, so I started watching it. Loved it ever since (and my mum still loves it too)!
  2. I'm afraid I'm one of those who reads while walking! I read for about 30 minutes at lunchtime, and I'm always walking as I do it:D
  3. I remember reading Aesop's Fables as well! I also used to love reading most Enid Blyton series, and I very often used to have the old torch on under the bed covers at night, reading a bit more. But my very earliest memory is sitting in the back room with my dad, reading Peter and Jane books, when he was teaching me to read.
  4. Atticus Finch, from To Kill A Mockingbird Patrick Bateman, from American Psycho (I wouldn't like to meet him in real life, but as a character, he's terrific) The narrator in Betty Blue (we never find out his name) Amelia Jane, from the Enid Blyton books!
  5. It depends on what I'm reading, as to how fast I will read it. I tend to read detective stories really quickly, but other books I will savour and take my time over. The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova too me ages to read (and to be honest, it was a bit of a relief when I reached the end of it). On average, I read a book every five days.
  6. I don't reread stuff very often, but as others have said, in the case of many books, it's more about the journey than the destination! I do love to try new stuff though:)
  7. The Devil's Advocate, by Andrew Neiderman (don't think that just because the movie is good, the book will be - it's truly awful) Mourning Ruby, by Helen Dunmore (I wanted to like it, I really did, but I just couldn't) Anything by Sheila Quigley - (dire writing, boring and predictable storyline) The Accidental - Ali Smith - (hated it) The Hours - Michael Cunningham (boring)
  8. okay, deep breath. Here are the box sets I own: Law & Order Law & Order: SVU Law & Order: Criminal Intent Homicide: Life on the Streets NYPD Blue Boston Legal Murder One X Files Oz E.R. The Shield the Wire The Sopranos Six Feet Under Rescue Me Curb Your Enthusiasm Sex & The City Everybody Loves Raymond King of Queens Frasier Seinfeld Arrested Development Twin Peaks Northern Exposure That's not to mention all the sets I have of tv programmes that only ran for one season. I also have most films by Jeff Bridges, Johnny Depp and Christian Bale. I don't tend to watch much on tv, but late at night at the weekend, I like to sit down, veg out and watch some of my favourite tv shows!
  9. I read a little bit in the morning, then for about 30 minutes at lunchtime, and for a couple of hours in the evening. Except for Sundays, when I spend most of the day reading.
  10. I could read before I went to school as well. My dad taught me (and my brothers), and my mom would buy me a new book every week. My claimed that I was reading from memory, rather than ability - not sure how she came up with that idea. My mom and dad disagreed with her, and later on the teacher did actually apologise and admit she was wrong. My parents never tried to make me read - they just encouraged me, and it's something I have always loved to do. Lucky really, as at the secondary school I went to, the teachers - all bar a couple - were not interested in encouraging us to read.
  11. Read this a couple of months ago - great read, although I preferred the first 2/3 of the book to the final part.
  12. I bought this recently, after learning that it was the book which inspired Mick Jagger to write Sympathy for the Devil (I am a big Stones fan)! I have heard so many good reviews of it, I really must get around to reading it soon.
  13. I've read To Kill A Mockingbird, American Psycho and Wuthering Heights more than once.
  14. I have always been a bookworm, right from when I was a child. My parents both love to read, and so do both of my brothers, so I guess it was inevitable that I would too. I don't know why I still love to read so much - for me, it is the best way to de-stress after a rough day at work, or to relax when I'm at home.
  15. I loved The Face (it was the first book of his I had read). I also really liked Life Expectancy. The Taking was pretty good, but The Eyes of Darkness was dire. Generally I think his earlier stuff was not so good as the stuff he is doing now.
  16. I hate lending books out, mainly because they hardly ever come back to me. I've even had to replace a few books which never came back. I am very cautious about lending books out now - daft as it may sound, I would rather give someone a book and replace it myself () The trouble is that it is difficult to say no when someone is at your house and sees the book on a shelf. I have one friend who is notorious for doing this (and the same thing with DVDs - he had one of my X Files box sets for over a year, and I actually forgot who I had lent it to, and ended up replacing it).
  17. Me neither, and definitely not interested in Lord of the Rings either.
  18. I also tend to build up pictures from scratch, and have a visual idea of each character in my mind. If they make the book into a movie and the actor does not look like the image I had of the character, I am always a bit disappointed.
  19. Yes, I do that too. For example, I have the entire No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series of books, but have only read the first three up until now.
  20. I actually bought another edition of this on Saturday. It's been years since I read it, and I saw the Vintage Collection edition. I loved the cover, and I remember really enjoying the book, so I snapped it up.
  21. They are all books I own and haven't got around to reading yet, or in a few cases, books that I read years ago and want to reread. My husband thinks it's quite funny really - I tend to buy 4 or 5 books a week every week! Although in recent weeks I have slowed down on my buying drastically. I read fairly quickly though, so I do get through them at quite a good pace. The thing is that hubby loves reading too, so in addition to my books, he also has shelves of books.
  22. Oh loads of stuff on mine. Foo Fighters White Stripes The Chillis Manic Street Preachers INXS Rolling Stones Plus various other odd songs that I like.
  23. I like Wuthering Heights - I have a greater appreciation of it now though, than I did when I read it as a teenager. I also like Jane Austen, although Emma is my least favourite of her books. Sense and Sensibility is better, and Persuasion is a lovely lovely book.
  24. Depends what kind of thing you enjoy, but some books that made me laugh out loud were: Forrest Gump, by Winston Groom (very different to the film, and I think the book polarised opinions, but I loved it) Any of the 'Cat' books by Deric Longden (especially if you are a cat owner) Round Ireland with a Fridge, by Tony Hawks
