  1. LOL! Don't feel bad! I tried to get into that show and never could.
  2. Thanks! It's been a rough couple of years for her and my dad. She can't drive, has a hard time walking, and needs transfusions and infusions of iron because she also deals with constant stomach bleeding, plus she has diabetes and needs insulin. My dad has actually retired to take care of her (he's over 70, it was time anyway), and my mom's sister lives about 40 minutes away and helps out a lot. But she still has a better memory than my dad and still loves to go out. We actually skipped a family get-together today because we're both exhausted. I actually took a two-hour nap this afternoon, while BF has been doing some work on his computer (doing something called a pass-through using Linux and Windows ). It's 11:00 at night now, and we might go out and do some grocery shopping, but hopefully not. I just want to watch a movie and order in.
  3. Here's what cheered me up today: - my boss was out of town, so less stress - it's FRIDAY! - recently rediscovered this song, which has been happily buzzing in my dead all day
  4. Yesterday was ridiculously rainy and windy (the wind almost knocked me on my butt a few times!). Today, we have sun, some clouds, and mild temps...definitely more spring-like.
  5. I don't know. She has liver disease and a condition called hepatic encephalopathy, which is a build-up of ammonia in her brain. It causes her to experience mental confusion, fogginess, and motor instability. So, she tends to fall a lot, which then lands her in physical therapy. The worst was late last year when she fell out of bed and hit her head really hard on the wall (she actually dented the wall). She ended up with some bleeding on her brain, so they kept her in the hospital for a while. That was scary. I'm SO glad it's Friday! It's been a challenging week and work (I even applied for a few jobs in a moment of weakness), so I'm ready for the weekend. We might visit my family tomorrow, as they're all getting together at my brother's house. If not, though, we'll probably run errands, watch movies, eat junk food, and sleep.
  6. Yikes! My dad has dislocated his knee before, and my mom has broken her ribs before in a fall (she falls a lot), and I remember the pain they were in. I hope your dad feels better soon! BF and I are on the couch with our laptops, kinda-watching the Oscars pre-show. Sundays are slow days for us, before the horror of the week begins.
  7. Finally watched the new Murder on the Orient Express, and now that I've heard that there's going to be a sequel, and that it's going to be based on my FAVORITE Agatha Christie book, I'm so excited!
  8. My favorite shows of the moment are: Last Man on Earth Stranger Things Last Week Tonight SNL (watching that now...for some reason as it's only 9:30) Cosmos (Neil DeGrasse Tyson version) Supersizers (been watching on YouTube)
  9. Thanks, Athena! I'm SO glad it's Saturday. BF and I are taking the day slowly, running a few errands, and now, waiting for our pizza/gyro dinner to come.
  10. Oooh...grilled cheese sandwich...well, I know what I'm having for dinner! Grilled cheese, tomato soup, and a tall, cold glass of milk.

    Your Age?

I probably answered the poll years and years ago, so I should post an update and say that I'm....38. I don't think I'll ever feel my age, though.
  12. I started reading The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin, which is great so far. I recently read Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, which was amazing, and Beloved by Toni Morrison. I've also been on a Kindle downloading kick, and just got Nothing Without Laughter by Langston Hughes today. March is looking really good, book-wise!
  13. Seattle winter: gray, 50 degrees F. Sometimes it rains. Sometimes it's windy. Repeat for 4 months.
  14. I've been away from the forum for so long, but decided today to check in! I've been so tired lately...I started a new job in November, which requires that I get up at 7:00 AM every day (my previous job was more flexible). Almost every day after I get home I fall asleep for about 3 hours...not good! Going to try to not do that today! At this moment, I'm covering the front desk of our office as our receptionist is out today, looking out the window at the tall buildings outside and wondering what the people at work inside them are doing and thinking. I have 3 more hours until I catch the bus home....tick tock!
  15. Last night ended up being anything but relaxing. BF was hit with a really bad migraine and spend the rest of the evening in bed, wanting his head rubbed. He's still feeling poorly today. I found out one of my coworkers is leaving the agency, so I emailed my boss and put myself forward for her position, which would be a promotion for me. I was nervous to be so up front about it, but it's better that they know that I'm interested. I have a weekly meeting with my boss every Tuesday, so I'm sure we'll talk about it tomorrow. Yikes!
  16. Virginia, take care of yourself! Not much happening here. We've been hearing fighter jets in the skies the past few days...it's the U.S. Navy Blue Angels practicing for their annual Seattle SeaFair show over Lake Washington. I'll admit, it's a nerve-wracking sound! Now I'm just heating up some frozen pizza and getting ready for some Sunday night lounging.
  17. I seem to have misplaced my reading mojo. If anyone finds it please let me know...
  18. I just had a bagel wit cream cheese...but I really want pizza.
  19. Hot. Just...hot. 92F today, 95F tomorrow (35C). This summer has been brutal!

    Hello

Welcome to the forum! My older brother is a hug fan of John Connolly, and he gave me Every Dead Thing for Christmas 2 years ago, but I haven't read it yet, which endlessly irritates him as he wants to talk about it with me. Maybe this is a sign that it's time to pick it up!
  21. Wow! I would agree that those are some amazing views! Obviously, "best" is relative.
  22. It rained today! Only for a little while, but it was wonderful! Starting tomorrow, though, we're back to 80s ad 90s.
  23. BF is making me watch a comedy special with Will Ferrell as George W. Bush. It's OK.
