  1. Am plodding along with Small Island and am making progress. One of the characters called Hortense is becoming more rounded and real to me now.
  2. I am running a bookring on here for "Helpless" by Barbara Goudy. If you wish to join it you can by adding your name to the list in the Bookring section.
  3. I used to be an Annie M, until I changed my name on marriage. Enjoy the forum Annie

  4. Re drawing, yes it is being framed, we were supposed to pick it up today, but too busy, so we are going over tomorrow. Should look great

  5. Isnt he an absolute sweetie?! I love him to bits.

  6. Isn't he the sweetest thing? Well you may have seen that I have joined a reading group on U3A which I am sure I will enjoy. I have also been busy with the singing group sorting out their music (flipping nightmare!!). OH is cooking my dinner tonight, he does that once a week. Have you had an email from Green Metropolis about the things they are going to add to their site? Looks interesting, they are including a Forum as well. I hope you are well Diane. I am currently reading Small Island by Andrea Levy (reading group book), but have The Stand on the side as well lol. Thanks for asking, lots of love.

  7. Have put aside The Stand having reached the end of the first section. I now have to get stuck into Small Island by Andrea Levy for the U3A Book Club which I have joined. Have already read the first couple of chapters and am finding it interesting so far. Shouldnt think it will take long to read, 1 week if I am lucky lol
  8. I thought I'd been to Africa. Small Island by Andrea Levy
  9. I am still plodding away with The Stand and enjoying it. I am nearing the end of the section called Captain Trips. The next section is call On the Border. I am enjoying his style of writing and his amazing imagination. I will have to have a break soon to start on the choice of the book group I have joined - Small Island by Andrea Levy
  10. I like the Citroen car advert, where the car comes apart and dances around like a robot and then drops back down into a car again. I think it is really clever. I actually think all car adverts are good, a lot of imagination seems to go into them. I also like the latest Post Office ad, very ingenious.
  11. I am so old, I have 2 almost grown up grandchildren 16 and 14 lol!! I know Woodingdean, used to have friends there who lived in Cowley Drive/Road I think it was. Nice area. Yes Littlehampton can be windy - isnt everywhere these days? I retired down to Sussex having spent most of my life in Cheam, Surrey. I also spent a lot of my time in Littlehampton as a teenager and as a mum with small kids. Had loads of flirtatious down here in the 50s woohoo!! My "girl"friend from those days now lives in Canada and we always reminisce when we meet.

  12. My labby used to do that. I think it must be comfortable for them, bit like us sprawling on the sofa isnt it?

  13. There are loads of books Emma, but for such a beginner as you, a class to learn to sew would be better, or if you can't stretch to that, I am sure there are some on line tutorials, there are for painting so I am sure there will be some for sewing as well. Good luck.
  14. I had one today Yippee!!!! Oh it was luvverly. I ate it so slowly and so carefully so that none of the scrumptious white chocolate dropped off MMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm so good!!
  15. Nici I just looked at your blog and so agree with this - The art of happiness is being content with what you have. If only everyone else followed that philosphy, the world would be a better place I think.
  16. When I did the OU courses in the 80s, I was able to get a bursary from the local council and they paid all my fees. Its worth a try I think. Its interesting what you said about the perceived Scottish bias, I have only browsed through after I registered and didnt notice it. I am more likely to concentrate on the Science and Nature subjects. It may all be above my head now though . The U3A have suggested the Open Learning to members with a view to forming groups of like minded people (in terms of subjects) to discuss and work together on projects. I thought this was a really good idea.
  17. Yuk!!!! What is it about sprouts that people love so much. I keep trying them, but to me they are yukky:rant:
  18. Glad you found it helpful Nici. I thought it was a good sensible article.

  19. Hi Nici, did you get that mag yet??

  20. You are right Nici, I am enjoying The Stand. One chapter last night had me yawning a bit, but it has picked up again and I am well into it once more. "Rebecca" has been put aside for the moment
  21. It seems to be the OU would be perfect for you Janet. There is an OU Open Learning site you might like to visit. http://www.open.ac.uk/openlearn/home.php
  22. Hi Eve, welcome to the Forum, hope you enjoy

  23. Thank you Rennie, yes I had a lovely day. 2 days later I went up to Birmingham to celebrate my stepdaughter's 40th. I am very well thank you and I hope you are too. Loving the fine weather here on the South Coast at the moment.

  24. Oh yes definitely I know Brighton - London by sea and full of buzz lol. I live a little way along the coast from you at Littlehampton. I have lived here 4 years but have known the whole area since I was a child (a long long long time ago). Nice to meat you Pip
