  1. He is real cute isnt he? He landed on me while I was scrabbling around in the bushes in my garden, but I didnt notice him until I felt this tickle on my neck. Unfortunately I didnt realise what it was and just brushed my hand over my neck a bit roughly. He got on to my hand, but I noticed in the photo that one of his antennae looks damaged. I do hope I didnt do that :-(

  2. Oooh Stephanie you mean thing!! How could you:lol:
  3. I thought it was fantastic read, despite too much gratuitous swearing at the beginning. The ending was one I had in my mind as I got closer to the end, after I had discounted the obvious ones. In the end it couldnt be anything else could it?
  4. Happy birthday Sedge

  5. I love the one with a little boy and a dog and the biscuit he is eating, telling the dog biscuits arent good for dogs so he will eat his for him:lol:
  6. Slight correction to my last post. I only buy a new book from Newbooks magazine lol
  7. You, know I still have this story on my mind. I keep seeing the characters and what happened to me all the time - and I am still jumpy.
  8. The Ruins by Scott Smith Blurb What happens when one simple, innocent decision becomes a catastrophic mistake. Craving an adventure on their Mexican holiday before they return home, a group of four friends impulsively set off in search of one of their own who has travelled to the interior to investigate an archaeological dig in the Mayan ruins. After a long journey into the heart of the jungle, the group come across a trail. A hillside covered in bright red flowers lures them closer. A Mayan horseman approaches behind them. But this is no friendly welcome: he has a gun and orders them fiercely away. In the midst of the confrontation, one of the group steps inadvertently backwards, into the flowering vine. And at that moment their world changes forever. This is an horrific story, but very compelling. I couldn
  9. Are they offering any treatment? Tinnitus - well they can't cure that can they? Its a b***er aint it. BTW did you get R's text?

  10. Well what the hell does that mean? Is it better than having Meniere's (I hope). Why dont you think its this thing.?

  11. Yay!! its me again:friends0::D

  12. I finally finished "The Ruins". I have never read a book like it before and I couldn't put it down. Am now reading "Persuasion" by Jane Austen. Mainly to calm my nerves. I am so jumpy now after The Ruins
  13. Hello Sam. I haven't read your books at all, but from what I have read about them on this site, it won't be long before I do. My question is "Does anyone else in your immediate or extended family write?"
  14. I get mine from charity shops and often they are almost new!! I would never buy new, they are far too expensive. The only way I would get a new book is if I were given one or given a book token. I think its a waste of money unless they are classics or reference book, but even these you can get from second hand book shops.

Well done to Andy Murray for beating Rafa Nadal. Beat him soundly too, in 4 sets. Wonder how he will get on tonight playing Federer in the final?
  16. Hello Paula. Just finished work?

  17. Didthey? It woud make a terrific film. Its already frightening me to death to the point where I can't read it before I go to bed. I am not sure if I could watch a film
  18. I have noticed that when a book is tense and exciting I tend to read faster, wanting to find out what's happening on the next page. When this happens I do tend to not take in things occasionally and have to go back and read over.
  19. I have posted a new thread by mistake in "TV/Films. I couldnt find the way to delete one of them. Can you deal with it please? Thanks. Ann

  20. For me, there are 2 Moulin Rouge - with Nicole Kidman and ?? but I still like Nicole Kidman The Deerhunter - with Robert de Niro and Meryl Streep. This put me off both these actors - R.d N forever, but MS coming around to a little. Anyone else have favourite hates ?
  21. "They met Matthias on a day trip to Cozumel" The Ruins by Scott Smith
  22. Thanks for asking me to be a friend Trish. I am happy to accept. Ann (SG)

  23. How was the knitting exhibition?

  24. Finished "No Time for Goodbye" this afternoon. What a thrilling story! I was trying to work out what it was all about as a I read and formed several theories. One of them did turn out to be the right one. This should be made into a film I think. This author certainly has the skill to weave an engrossing and exciting read, which keeps you reading and wanting to turn the pages quickly to find out what is going to happen next. As I said before I wasnt keen on the use of the F word at the beginning and find it hard to believe that American school children are allowed to use that kind of language in front of their teachers. If Mr Barclay can find better words to use instead of the gratuitous F word, his work would be even more enjoyable. Have now started "The Ruins" by Scott Smith. It is a story about a group of students of differing nationalities on holiday in Mexico when they are persuaded to go in search of the brother of one of them, who has gone in search of some ruins being excavated by some archeologists, when something goes wrong in the worst sense of the word. Has anyone else heard of this author? I dont remember when I got this book, but the story must have interested me. However I am not sure I am going to like it because it seems to be a horror story:blush:
  25. Used to skim to get to the end, then realised what I was missing. Now I read word for word and also re read if I didnt quite get something. If I nearly drop off while reading at night, when I pick it up the following day, I find I have to go back at least a page because nothing went in as I was nodding off.
