  1. I thought Lynda should have gone, but as usual the wrong couples were in the dance-off to begin with. It should have been Jo Wood and Joe Calzaghe, and Joe should have gone. I can't stand it, it really is John Sergeant all over again. My favourites at the moment are Ali and Ricky Whittle. Why? Because they are the best dancers! But of course that doesn't count for anything in a dancing competition, does it? I thought Phil Tufnell did well tonight too. Ballroom suits him, but I think his Latin will let him down. He always has such a cheeky grin on his face, like he's really enjoying it, and he makes me smile too.

Yeah, and she could give her some make-up tips as well, ie stripes of red blusher belong in the 80s (although the 80s are back in at the moment, I see). I don't like Charity with long hair, I think it suits her better short. Her son Noah is adorable though. Who is his father? I can't remember.

In my experience, Tonight was entertaining, but was it a coincidence too far? How likely was it that that would happen? But then again, sometimes strange things do happen. It was all a bit depressing really.

    Happy Birthday! :balloons:

  6. That bit sounds very familiar, but I'm sorry, I can't name the book. I'll have a think.
  7. We must have read the same book! It discouraged people from using alternatives such as shouted, whispered etc as it said it got in the way of the flow of dialogue, and there was nothing wrong with using plain old "said". That said (ha ha), primary school children are taught to use alternatives to "said" to make their writing more interesting! So I guess it's a matter of personal taste. Neither really bother me, I'm more interested in a good plot and the dialogue itself.
  8. I fancied him as well, but my heart belonged to Simon le Bon!
  9. I think the first record I bought (7" vinyl!) was Thunder in the Mountains by Toyah! I used to love that video! Gyre, that's rather cool! ScarletBella - I loved Duran Duran!
  10. I watched it and I'm in two minds about it so far. It was good, but not as good as it could have been, or perhaps as good as I expected. I didn't really warm to the characters, and yet we had very little time after being introduced to them before everything kicked off, so it made it a bit difficult to care about what they saw. I guess you could say it was the same in Lost, but I got straight into that and cared about them all straight away, so ... My major gripe was with the mumbling delivery of the main male character - I missed half of what he said. Some of it was intriguing, and I felt sorry for I'm sure the programme will grow on me, like The Mentalist did.

  12. I read every pony book my library had when I was younger! My favourites were the Jill series by Ruby Ferguson and the Jinny at Finmory series by Patricia Leitch. The Jinny ones were the best, and Leitch also wrote other pony books which were very good. I also remember receiving a boxset of five Silver Brumby books by Elyne Mitchell. I didn't think I'd like them, as they dealt with wild horses in the Australian outback, but they were excellent too.

Another good episode tonight! Loved Arthur trying to "slum it". Well done Guinevere for telling him off, that was great! And the kiss... aww. Strange how no-one, not even the king, noticed that the guy supposedly taking part in the tournament was riding Arthur's horse!
  14. Rawr, your post was very interesting but it has not swayed my opinion for the reason highlighted above. What I mean is, (and this is obviously just my opinion), that if you are adapting a book for film, you should stay as true to the book as possible. It is one of my greatest pet hates when people adapt a book and the film is completely different. If you're using the same title, make it like the book! Otherwise, quite frankly it's a damn cheek to nick someone else's ideas and then "re-imagine" them. If Kubrick wanted to do a "haunted hotel" film, I'm sure he could have come up with his own ideas rather than cherry-picking King's. If it's a totally different interpretation, like you say, it shouldn't have been called The Shining. Just my two pennorth!
  15. Unfortunately I have nothing to add about Oscar Wilde, but I had to say that I love the fact you've invented a new verb. Nice one!
  16. I finished the second book, Catching Fire, a few days ago, and it was equally as good as the first. I can't wait for the last one now - hope the wait isn't too long. These books really are among the best young adult books I've read for a long time. I can't recommend them enough. I may yet do a review, but I'm anxious about doing them justice.
  17. I saw on Amazon that one of his forthcoming books is called Under the Dome, and it sounds really, really good! It's about a small town that suddenly finds itself enclosed under a dome (well, you could probably guess that) and I'm really looking forward to it.
  18. Of course it should, but here we go again with the public and their sympathy votes. I wish we didn't have the public vote at all.

Oh yes, it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "taking liberties"! But once you ignore all the above and the jarringly modern slang ("spondoolicks" being a prime example) and just go with the flow, it is rather enjoyable!
  20. At last, someone else who watched it! I've been dying to know if it worked on anyone. Perhaps they all chickened out, like me! I forgot about the homeless man stunt. It did seem a bit strange... Maybe we should all rearrange a few window displays in the local shopping centre and try it!
  21. I knew it was going to happen as my TV mag kindly spoiled it. I don't like Have you ever noticed how Neighbours and Home & Away seem to follow/copy each other's storylines?
