I remember it now, it was something to do with WW2 wasn't it? It was ok but I think I worked out what was going to happen.

Yes the main character's brother died and he ended up going to France to come to terms with it, car went of the road and he ended up in a wee village etc. and meets (supposedly) a girl called Fabrisse.

  2. All the cards were done and posted early last week and I'm nearly done with the pressies, but seriously think we need a review of who we buy for as everyone has so much nowadays. Christmas food shopping next week although I'm not going overboard as there will only be the 4 of us, and it is really only like a Sunday roast dinner really isn't it... :D Hoping to go get ourselves our wee 'real tree' from our wee local garden centre, they always have nice fresh trees. Hope the weather is ok as the roads and paths here are awful at the moment with the icy cold wet weather.

  3. 'Love Letters' by Debbie Macomber

Nice easy read. First one of the Rose Harbor series of books I read but this was the 3rd one so I wasn't aware of the main character Jo Marie, but I enjoyed it as a stand alone read. Both couples who visit one weekend had one thing in common...a love letter...and also Jo Marie herself. I love the cosy setting of Rose Harbor Inn and Jo Marie seems like a perfect owner. I would probably read an earlier one to find out more about the main characters.

Inver, I've read both Hercule Poirot's Christmas and Mystery in White.  Both were enjoyable -- although the former didn't feel particularly Christmassy!

I think I've heard that not being very Christmassy but I loved the cover. Love your name by the way...

  5. Does anyone have any Christmas books they like to read in December or do you have a wishlist of books for Santa... I've been having a browse in Waterstones this week looking for ideas and I ended up buying Hercule Poirot's Christmas for hubby. It has a lovely cover and I hope he enjoys it.

I've seen a few titles I might add to my Santa list...

'Another Little Christmas Murder' Lorna Nicholl Morgan

'A Christmas Party' by Georgette Meyer

'Murder in the Snow' Gladys Mitchell

'Mystery in White' by J Jefferson Farjeon

It was the covers that attracted me...some are really old fashioned looking.

  6. 'The Legacy' by Katherine Webb

New author for me. Enjoyed this read, two sisters return to the house where they spent a lot of time together as children. Their grandmother left them the house but there are secrets that need to be solved. Something happened to their cousin Henry, he disappeared and Erica vows to find out what happened to him, but Beth doesn't want her to pursue it. What is she hiding?

The story goes between past 1904 (Caroline and America, although I found part of it a bit far fetched, getting a baby to Britain and no questions asked!) and present and eventually the stories blend, but not without their secrets. Letters, photographs, whose baby is in the photograph with Caroline as they know nothing of there being a child. All is revealed with a few twists along the way.

  7. 'The Woman Who Painted Her Dreams' by Isla Dewar

Well I started this book months ago and seemed to be enjoying it but it has taken me so long to get to 3/4 of the way through that I had completely lost track of what was actually happening. I have made the decision to abandon it, just not holding my interest anymore...life is to short as they say.

  8. 'Secrets of the Lighthouse' by Santa Montefiore

This was my first read of this author and on the whole I enjoyed it. Ellen runs away to Ireland and doesn't want to be found and finds the perfect place when she goes to stay with her Aunt Peg and meets lots of members of her family she knew nothing about. Why had her mother kept all this a secret from her? She feels at home there but also hears about a tragedy that happened at the lighthouse. I loved the family she has in Ireland and she soon falls in love with their way of life and doesn't want to have to face what she has run away from and vows not to go back.

Caitlin died tragically at the lighthouse, but what was the truth about why and how it happened. Caitlin is the supernatural element in this storyline and she talks to us as she watches over her children and her husband, who becomes involved with Ellen, she is jealous and wants to find a way to put an end to their relationship before it gets too serious. How would this be possible and how can make her peace and get closure. A weary soul who has to find a way. Surely Conor still loves her and not Ellen.

Sometimes it was a bit predictable but it was still an enjoyable read. I may well try another of her books.
