  1. As Janet says....it is good to broaden one's horizon.
  2. I have a leather bound set of every book that L'Amour wrote and have read each one twice. The Sacketts, I agree, by L'Amour are good. A Western in the "Mountainman" theme that is one of the greatest is "The Big Sky" by A.B. Guthrie. A great, great, book.
  3. James Lee Burke is one of if not "the" favorite crime/mystery writer of mine. I am currently reading his new book "Light of the World". I think I have read all of his many books. my favorites are those from the Dave Robicheaux series.
  4. As a start, I would strongly recommend Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.
  5. A have finished reading all the books in the series. The storyline was pretty good but I find myself agreeing with others on this topic, the writing was strung out wayyyyy to much. Very seldom do I skim when reading but after book two I did a lot of skimming. Sometimes I would almost skip an entire chapter. I was also very disappointed with the ending of the last book.

Brian - Thanks, The T-Bird is probably my favorite car of all time but the 1953 Corvette is a close second - see attached photo. Chesilbeach - The Vintage Jaquar are beautiful cars. Yes, it would be nice to own one. Poppy - The Classic MG are also nice cars to drive, especially on a mountain road. The TR6 was also a very nice car. The only problem with the MG and TR6 was that you always needed a toolbox in your trunk as it was certain that you would need it.

I also liked the Acura cars. I owned a 2000 TL, a 2004 TL, and a 2010 TL. I really liked the 2000 and 2004 but did not like the 2010 at all and kept it less than 12 months. It seemed like you were driving and riding in a tank. I sold the 2010 TL and bought the BMW 528. Athena, I really like the Tesla S and have been thinking about it. The other new car that I like is the Jaquar F model. I am waiting for the Coupe to be released, soon I hope. I would love to own both of them. My favorite car of all time though is the 1955 Thunderbird. One of these days I am going to talk my wife into letting me buy one. The attached photo is actually the one I want.
  8. I just returned from "Total Wine" store. I bought a mixed case of white wine. Chardonnay, Vinho Verde, Albarino. Muscadet, and Chenin Blanc
  9. I changed my mind. There is nothing better than a tomato sandwich with fresh tomato from the garden on two pieces of sourdough bread spread with butter and mayo....with a wee bit of sugar sprinkled on.

I am old and an American . If you ever get a chance to visit the U.S., please contact me and I will give you lessons in driving. Current cars we own. The Audi Sports coupe is primarily driven by my wife. The BMW 528 is primarily driven by me. The racing car has a Pratt & Miller chassis and a CRD engine. We raced in the Trans Am Road Racing Series at some of the best tracks in the world. The photo was taken at Road America. Brian - the GTR is a nice car.

  13. I have read: Ocean at the End of the Lane Neverwhere Anansi Boys American Gods Odd and the Frost Giants The Graveyard Book Coraline For me, American Gods was also my least favorite but I did enjoy it somewhat. Other than that I really enjoyed all of the others very much with "special" likes of "The Graveyard Book". Stardust will be my next read of his. My thanks to Poppy for initially recommending this author to me. That alone has made my membership in the forum very worthwhile.
  14. I have found specific books listed on the forum by Neil Gaiman but I have not found a thread devoted to "everything" Neil Gaiman. So, I have started one as he certainly deserves it. I believe that of the books by him that I have read so far, my two favorites are, "The Graveyard" which is by far my favorite and one that I have just finished reading, "The Ocean at the End of the Lane". Stardust is next on my Neil Gaiman TBR list. Any fans here of Neil Gaiman . I believe there is at least one fan.
  15. Maine Lobster served out of the Shell with red bliss whipped potatoes, and lobster brandy sauce and Lobster Enchiladas Fresh Maine lobster wrapped in flour tortillas and baked with a homemade lime-cilantro cream, shredded cheese and diced tomatoes. Served with rice and broccolini.
  16. Peacefield - I envy you. Sounds like your cabin is a nice place to simply relax. You should be ok with any bear as long as there are not any bear cubs around. The mama bear gets aggressive if anyone gets between her and the cubs. Besides, any bear that Chrissy sends will be "peaceful" (play on words). btw, Chrissy mentioned a "Garden Party"......http://youtu.be/w2oLYf8pJ0M
  17. Butterflies were all over my zinnia today. Must have been over 12 at least flying around. Photo #1 - I got a photo of a butterfly in the air. Photo #2 - there are at least 7 butterflies in the photo - see if you can find them - may have to enlarge the photo Photo #5 - I think there are 5 butterflies in this photo.
  18. You have to see this. It is really good......."The Illusionist" http://www.youtube.com/embed/Ai4tPe80S6Q?rel=0
  19. RED SKELTON'S RECIPE FOR THE PERFECT MARRIAGE 1. Two times a week we go to a nice restaurant, have a little beverage, good food and companionship. She goes on Tuesdays; I go on Fridays.. 2. We also sleep in separate beds. Hers is in California , and mine is in Texas .. 3. I take my wife everywhere, but she keeps finding her way back.. 4. I asked my wife where she wanted to go for our anniversary. "Somewhere I haven't been in a long time!" she said. So I suggested the kitchen.. 5. We always hold hands. If I let go, she shops.. 6. She has an electric blender, electric toaster and electric bread maker. She said "There are too many gadgets, and no place to sit down!" So I bought her an electric chair.. 7. My wife told me the car wasn't running well because there was water in the carburetor. I asked where the car was. She told me, "In the lake.".. 8. She got a mud pack and looked great for two days. Then the mud fell off.. 9. She ran after the garbage truck, yelling, "Am I too late for the garbage?" The driver said, "No, jump in!".. 10. Remember: Marriage is the number one cause of divorce.. 11. I married Miss Right. I just didn't know her first name was 'Always'.. 12. I haven't spoken to my wife in 18 months. I don't like to interrupt her.. 13. The last fight was my fault though. My wife asked, "What's on the TV?" I said, "Dust!"..
  20. 1. There are two kinds of pedestrians ....... the quick and the dead. 2. Life is sexually transmitted. 3. The only difference between a rut and a grave is the depth. 4. Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday; lying in the hospital dying of nothing. 5. Ever wonder who the person was to look at a cow and say, "think I'll pull on one of those dnagly things and see what comes out?" 6. If Jimmy cracks corn and no one cares, then why is there a song about him? 7. If corn oil is made from corn and vegatable oil is made from vegatables, what is baby oil made of? 8. Healthy is merely the slowest possible rate at which someone can die. 9. And lastly, if Superman could stop bullets, why did he always duck when the bad guy threw a gun at him?
