  1. My mother always tried to engage me in the kitchen when I was young, but I prefered to be off with my dad in the garage, working at the cars. In the end, I am unable to cook and cannot repair a car. C'est la vie. But, I received a big praise for my chocolate muffins, so, not everything is lost. As always, it is about the motivation, chocolate is the motivator.
  2. As a student I managed pretty well with instant food. I mean what's wrong with that. We live in a civilised world. Why am I supposed to cook perfectly only because I am female. Right?
  3. I've just messed up a tofu experiment last night that even caused the guest stomach problems. Though I am really trying hard. Cooking basically is chemistry, and I am good at chemistry. Still somehow, the cooking part of my brain has malfunctions. Any fellow sufferers?
  4. Hey, then it's not me, it's him. Well, maybe it's just jealousy that I don't like the books that are so much more successful than mine, which are probably never to come. Interesting thing is though, I like the movies, too. High Fidelity and Fever Pitch are two of these rare cases that I like the movie better than the book. I think that's what it is. The theme is good entertainment, for movies though. But please, READ!! Reading is always worth it. PS: Thanks for the warm welcome.
  5. So, what about that big pile of books on my shelf waiting to be read... let's see... I got Margaret Atwood for Christmas The Blind Assassin. Wonder if that is any good. Then there has been for a couple of years and, I'm afraid, will be for a couple more Vanity Fair by Thackerey. My resolution once was to read all the classics. Notre Dame in French. Big ambitions here. Franzen's Corrections I once started and gave up. There's something about American literature, I don't know. And then, Howard's End. Gee I definitely should get on with that one. Yeah, why not now...see you.
  6. Hello everybody! Maybe anyone of you can fill me in. I read How to be good. The theme was great, it could be gripping (has anybody not asked himself, what the sense in all this is), but it was not, I felt. He could not get the woman perspective right and besides some funny scenes, he could not go into it. Then recently, I read Long Way Down, same thing. Interesting theme, of which you could make much, but somehow, he messed it again. It was boring. So, is it just my opinion or is the hype somehow mislead? Looking forward to your answers. Tanja PS: Please feel free to correct my English, I'm no native.
