  1. excellent! so glad to hear it. Can put The Other Queen down to be a pot-boiler!
  2. gosh, so glad I read this thread, I thought it was me! I have adored all of Phillipa Gregory's previous books, particularly this Tudor series, but I really didnt like The Other Queen at all. I persevered with it because I kept believing it would draw me in, but it didnt. I couldnt get to like any of the characters at all. I was glad to finish it, to be honest. But I will read the White Queen and hope it will be so much better.
  3. She is one of my favourite authors too. Although I feel that her earlier books are better than some of the newer ones, which have a lost something I feel. Although they are still great stories.
  4. I've looked at this but think that it wouldnt keep up with the speed at which I read! I have also looked at the Sony book reader - has anyone got this and got a view on it? it looks great for travelling, just wonder how practical it is before I shell out the money.
  5. Anyone who feels that Weightwatchers or Slimming World are expensive every week should consider this: How much do you spend on a takeaway or a bottle of wine each week? or on a ready meal from the supermarket?? my view is that the
  6. I am up to H. Enjoyed them to begin with but now finding them a bit tedious - how many life and death situations can a girl get into.... However I will continue with them - they are short and easy reading, I find, so I can slot them in around more lengthy books. Added to which I have upto N on my to be read shelf!
  7. Just popping in to say hello

  8. I have read the first 3 books. the second took me months to finish - i really struggled with it! I have found that I have to make these my main holiday read as thats the only way i can see I will get through them. I do enjoy them, just find them a bit hard going. I really enjoyed Voyager by doing this as I found I had more time each day to read. i will definately ensure I do that when i get to the Fiery Cross.
  9. I generally alternate between different genres. I have a tbr pile but also pick up some library books. If I browse the library I will generally try and get 2 or 3 of different genres so that I can continue alternating.
  10. Did anyone get to read this one and what did you think? I have just finished it and found it a really good absorbing book, perhaps a bit too long, but then I didn't want it to end!!! cant wait to get hold of the 2nd in the series now - its on loan at my library and cant find it on any swap sites - reluctant to pay WHSmith or Waterstone prices. I understand some of the later ones in the series are really hefty books!
  11. I am sorry to say I agree with you about this book Kell. I read it some time ago and you sum it up exactly for me too. Its strange because I love Nicci French books, presumably only one half of the duo is not as good as both of them together. I have Solace which is the other book that Nicci Gerrard has written on her own to read, and I am reluctant to give it a go because of this one.
  12. I agree completely. I read this book some time ago and found it extremely absorbing. It opens your eyes to the illness and you really get into the characters. would thoroughly recommend it and as said, it wont take long to read it, so you can fit it in between 'bigger' books.
  13. Know what you mean about the autobiographies and biographies. Why would I want to read all about Jordan or Vicky Beckham??? Are they any different to the rest of us etc. Couldn't agree more
  14. Years ago I stubbornly refused to read the Harry Potter books, not thinking they were my kind of thing at all and the hype put me off. Well the hype was there but when I gave in and read them, I loved them and as on a previous thread cant wait and also dread the final book. Since then I cant say I have stubbornly refused any, because I think you can be pleasantly surprised.
  15. Definately, sometimes you dont want to think when you are reading but then another time the stimulation is just what you need. Have only found this site a couple of days ago and cant believe with the amount of reading that I do that it has took me so long - picked up a link on the read it swap it site, so thank you whoever that was from. As you say, looking round the site you do pick up new author ideas, and I have already written a couple down that I will try. thanks Claire
