  1. Did you see my post about the missing ones in the admin section being HD? I'm sure that's where the problem lies, although I can't get to ftp right now to explore further.
  2. @Athena if you look in the admin section, some of the images are missing.. and they all have 'HD' in the box. If you look at the 'add smilie' option, there's an option to add two versions, for HD displays.. I'm assuming something has gotten messed up there?
  3. On my iPad, so will be brief for now... but I really enjoyed that first episode. It had a RTD feel for me, the humour was just right, and I think I'm going to like Bill.
  4. @Inver Athena has very cleverly put you a little arrow back in!
  5. This I do tend to agree with... I do think that overall a particular run or Doctor can work better for you, but there are bad episodes throughout. I am glad I've never reached a place where I've given up on the show, and I've often found some improves on a later, second viewing. The recent run with Capaldi and Clara hasn't worked well for me at all, but I will come back to it in the future and see if that changes.
  6. Nope - my understanding is that the software automatically chooses the size dependant on your screen size.
  7. @frankie - thank you for being so supportive, and for finding some of the new features. This has been a lot of work for the admin team, and we appreciate seeing some good comments alongside the problems.
  8. The option to upgrade the software has been around for a while, but we put it off, knowing it was going to be quite a big change. There came a point, however, where we would no longer get security updates, so it became a necessity. The staff didn't know exactly what to expect, so it's been a learning experience for us all. Huge thanks from me to Athena in particular, who's done loads to help - I'm not sure it would have happened without her! Secondly, thank you to all of our members who have coped well with the change, and been supportive. I know that change isn't always welcomed, but there are also some really nice features in this version.. thank you to those who have found these, and pointed them out.
  9. With regards to deleting posts, in the old version we may have let certain groups delete their posts, but this was a 'soft delete'.. this meant that the mods could still access the post, and either 'hard delete' it, or restore it. This has now changed slightly.. Hide is the same as soft delete, although now you may still see it in your thread, under a different colour. So, if you wish to delete a post, simply hide it instead. If you want it to go completely from your thread, let us know in this thread. We may also delete hidden posts after they've been hidden for a period of time.
  10. There are 3 different sizes of editor, and they can all be set up slightly different. I'm assuming from your comments that Athena has a full screen and sees the large editor, whilst Willoyd must have a smaller screen, or tablet, and so sees the medium one. I have made some adjustments to the medium one now. There is also a small one, but I've left that with only a few options, as to not overcrowd it. I hadn't noticed the fact that posts are remembered.. I have to say, I see that as much more of a positive than a negative. I remember having discussions on here before where posts weren't saving properly, and would then disappear, and there has been occasions where I've somehow left the page (clicked on a link, or accidentally hit the back button) and I've lost my post, so this seems an excellent new feature. I'll experiment in a min and find out how you get away from it if you wish. Added: I just left a post and when I came back and clicked in the box, it was still there. There was also a little message bar telling me my post had been restored, and giving me an option to click to remove it. Very clever, I think!
  11. Yep, that was on Sunday. She is so lovely!
  12. @Nollaig A few of us on here read Therapy by Sebastian Fitzek a few years ago.. that's my favourite of his. From the reviews I skimmed of Annihilation, the author is known for 'weird', and I think he has quite a few books. As I said, I started off quite well with it, but then ended up skimming quite quickly to get through it.
  13. I'm quite sure you're being paranoid. I hope it continues to go well.
  14. Never mind the cross stitch and 3DS - tell us more about the boy!
  15. I downloaded a few Big Finish DW and Torchwood audios recently, thanks to a Humble Bundle deal.. but I was surprised at how short they were. I'd love to get into more of the Big Finish audios in general, but they are so expensive! Anyway, I'm working my way through those.. when I remember to download a new one onto my iPod! Book-wise... I'd read A New Hunger, which is a short prequel to Warm Bodies, and quite enjoyed it, so I picked up The Burning World, which is the sequel. Although I persevered, and read it, it was a bit of a disappointment. It didn't have the same warmth(!) and humour as the first book, and was a little strange in places. An ok read, but I hoped for more.. and I don't think I'll move on to the third book. The Nightwalker, as recommended by Pontalba, was typical of the author.. confusing at times, but impossible to put down. I originally felt somewhat cheated by the ending at first, but after thinking about it, I'm not sure what other explanation there could have been, and it was an ending I hadn't predicted, which is always good. I'm still undecided over it, to be honest, but it was a good, intriguing read! Ink and Annihilation both started well, then almost lost me. In both cases I carried on reading, because I needed to know how they finished, but they weren't amazing. Ink had a great premise, but was rather predictable. The characters needed a little more depth I feel, and it felt jumpy in parts. It has a lot of good reviews, and I am wondering if I've simply read too many YA books. It just needed a little more for me. Annihilation had shouted at me every time I'd seen in Waterstones, so I finally picked it up. Reviews are very mixed, and I can see why.. for me it started off very gripping, but it just kinda lost it's way. Again.. a great idea, but too much time is spent on the main characters past, and her thoughts, and it rambles a bit. This is a fairly short book, and there are two more in the series.. I can't help but wonder if the story could have been condensed into just one book, with some bits simply cut. I honestly can't decide whether to continue or not. If anyone here has experienced the series, I'd love to know your thoughts.. reviews are very mixed!
  16. I thought it was time for a new DW thread.. just in case anyone is still watching..?! I for one have been quite disappointed with the show for a while.. I wasn't a huge fan of Clara, nor Capaldi's doctor. I've continued to watch, but I can't say that I remember much of it. However, the trailer for series 10 does look a little more promising. It will be good to no longer have such a focus on Clara, and they do look like more traditional, fun and exciting episodes. I honestly hope that it's a good series, and Capaldi has a good finish. As for the new doctor, I've been following some of the chat on Gallifrey Base, and there is a lot of hope for a female Doctor.. I'm not sure the BBC will take that risk, but I have to say I would LOVE to see it. Thoughts....?
  17. I've changed it back.. it changed the order of posts in one thread at least, I don't think it works here.
  18. I'm aware that some of you don't visit regularly - we make every effort to keep people up to date, and we post about expected changes and issues here in the announcements section. Sometime you may miss this.. the recent upgrade, for example happened quite quickly, as it was a security risk, and everything fell into place to do it over a short period of time. There are a few ways to keep up to date if you don't visit regularly. 1) Go to http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/7-announcements-amp-news/ and click on Follow. This will then send you notifications if we add a new announcement. 2) We have a Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/21521956760/ - whilst the forum was closed during it's upgrade, this was where we kept everyone up to date. 3) If you're on twitter.. https://twitter.com/bookclubforum
  19. The default activity stream (you can set up your own) should show you unread content over the past 365 days. However, please keep in mind that this was a major upgrade, which rebuilt pretty much everything, so I assume everyone has only been shown content since the upgrade.. and it hasn't been that busy. Also, you can select 'condensed' rather than 'expanded' if you want to see less of the post.
  20. I did post about the sign in / display name issue before we even upgraded.. http://www.bookclubforum.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/14716-important-upgrading-the-software/ Basically sign in names and display names were merged in this upgrade.. I'm assuming that has happened to you? Send me a PM if you want / need to change anything. On thing which happened after this upgrade was that everything was rebuilt, which I assume included post numbers. I'm sure you recall, as you've been around for a while, that in our earlier days Tell often deleted old threads etc, to help keep pressure off the database etc. Individual post numbers would stay unaffected, unless there was a rebuild. I'm assuming that has happened here.. I take no notice of my post numbers any more, so I can't say for sure if they've gone down.
  21. There are lots of settings for notifications in your profile, you may need to adjust some of those.

  23. Someone pointed out to me on Facebook that our SSL certificate was no longer valid. To be honest, I hadn't noticed any issues, and it wasn't something I knew much about. I spoke to our new host (that change happened a few months ago) and they kindly installed a new certificate for me. The forum software is set up so that https (i.e. a secure page) is used when you log in, which means your password is secure. If you're looking for the little padlock symbol, it doesn't come up whilst you're generally using the board, but it should when you log in. If this has caused any problems for anyone, please let me know.
  24. Please use this thread for simple moderator requests, such as when you would like a thread / post deleted, closed etc. Please do not use for technical queries - these are best posted as separate threads, so that others can find them if they have the same problem. Thank you
  25. Try the announcement forum.. we always keep members up to date on there.
