The book I am looking for is set on a cotton farm in the USA - I think in the 1930s - and is written from the perspective of the farmer's son who is in his early teens. The story is about life on the farm and particularly on the itinerant workers hired to pick the cotton. The cotton crop invariably fails and the family relies on the fruit and vegetables grown by the mother and grandmother. Thanks Doug
