a biography by Tom Wright (former Bishop of Durham, now Prof of New testament Theology at St Andrews University ). I long admired the Apostle Paul as a man and as a thinker. Tom Wright writes in a very readable style about Paul and his journeys. If you like this kind of book I heartily recommend to you.

Once in a while a book comes along and surprises you, this is such a book. I heard the author, Tom Nichols on the radio talking about it. The subject matter peeked my interest. I got a copy and read it. It was a well written and easily understood book. Nichols' theory is that we have become used seeing and hearing from experts on numerous topics - without taking much notice of them. We, he says have made up our own minds and become experts ourselves (often wrongly). Highly qualified men and women are being ignored etc... I commend this book to one and all. Nordic crime thrillers have become very popular over the last few years. I recently discovered Stefan Ahnhem whose novels - "Victim without a Face" and "The Ninth Grave" were a great read. Strong characters and graphic story-lines. If you like this genre,have a look.

I live in an area that has a history of coal mining...long since gone, sadly. The Mauricewood Devils by Dorothy Alexander (Freight Books).- tells the story of the mining disaster of 1889 through the eyed of local people. Well written and worth a read.
