  1. I absolutely love short story collections! I'm currently reading A. M. Homes 'The Safety of Objects' and have loved authors like Angela Readman and Diane Cook. Can anyone recommend any more quirky short story collections?
  2. Just set in Victorian times. The lack of editing is very disconcerting!
  3. Hello all! Thank you so much for replying. My favourite book is 'Let The Right One In' - it's one of the most beautiful, moving and brutal books I've ever read. It's the only book I ever reread. I like all sorts: currently reading a Victorian murder novel (poorly written, virtually unedited - will teach me to spontaneously buy books online), but I read a lot of Children's books of all ages, and I'm a lover of Speculative fiction especially in short story format. I've just finished reading two such books, one called 'Man vs Nature' and another called 'Don't Try This At Home', both of which I adored.
  4. I really want to read this but it seems to be out of print everywhere.
  5. The Last 7 Days of Peter Crumb - basically Peter decides he's going to end his life and he's taking everyone else down with him. It's superb but really hard to read in places.
  6. Hi David, Welcome! (I'm new here too!) Have you read much Chris Carter or Alex Marwood? Not British but some of the best crime novels I've ever read. Or if you're interested in some really established authors I highly recommend Mo Hayder. I adore her books.
  7. Hi Scott, Definitely let us know what your favourite books have been and we can recommend from there
  8. The were-lizard was the epitome of new X-files - the same weird story line but with the ability to laugh at it's own history. It was brilliantly written and perfectly executed.
  9. Hi all, As you can probably tell by my username I go by the name of Miss Nightlife, and I'm pleased to make your acquaintance. I have worked in the book retail industry for a long time now and clearly I love books, but I have a very varied reading taste. I'm here to make new friends and talk about books
