  1. I totally agree with you Will, especially when the slightest, most inane thing is posted on social media (eg I'm in Costa having a latte, who cares! I don't), or people get torn apart for merely expressing an opinion, sometimes on the most mundane of subjects. which is why I don't do social media very much,.
  2. No I haven't. I've got Howards End...... but haven't read it yet.
  3. Hope you're feeling better soon, sounds nasty.
  4. Yes it'll be interesting to see how they all fare when they have to go into the real world and maybe do something that doesn't involve following instructions on a screen all day. Mind you on the bus I do see some younger children reading books, so there's hope......
  5. We had a torrential downpour yesterday morning, luckily I was on the bus at the time! Pretty windy too.
  6. I read a letter from someone in the UK who went to the US, was trying to get some wine in a supermarket but when he asked where it was, the assistant said they didn't sell it as it was a family supermarket - meanwhile they were selling guns and ammo.....
  7. Thought Doctor Foster was just silly, those two deserve each other. Still like Bake Off - didn't expect to, I like Sandi, still not sure about Noel though.
  8. Quite a haul in Waterstone's yesterday: Thin Air - Michelle Paver The Third Nero - Lindsey Davis The Executioner of St Paul's - Susanna Gregory The Travelling Bag - Susan Hill
  9. I thought Red Dragon was the first one? I've only read Hannibal and thought that was pretty trashy, so haven't bothered with the others.
  10. Yesterday was lovely, quite warm and even had lunch sitting outside! meant to get windy and rainy tonight though.
  11. Everybody wants to rule the World - Tears for Fears - oops,. thought this was the song title thread!
  12. I'm hoping to read "Season of the Witch" by Natasha Mostert for Halloween. A Discovery of Witches (+ it's 2 sequels) by Deborah Harkness The Drowning Pool and Witch Hunt, both by Syd Moore
  13. Oh no I didn't find it arrogant at all, just wondering how you found the time to read them all! I appreciate some of them were short reads, but it's still a great total!
  14. Good luck, sounds like you're on fairly safe ground, so important to find good workmen now!
  15. Any thoughts on this year's dancers? The surprise so far is Debbie McGee, so elegant and composed. Quite as few possible contenders, and a few potential disasters as well!
  16. Glad your grandfather is making progress. I can't believe it's October either!
  17. I've read a couple of his books and I'm ok with the Americanisms, I must admit From A Buick 8 did remind me of an extended X Files episode! I enjoyed it though. I don't think a similar book set in the UK would work - From a Ford Escort just doesn't sound the same really!
  18. I loved the series as well, I thought her books were run of the mill chick-lit but obviously not, just how they've been marketed. Good to see the cast doing well at the Emmys the other week.
  19. That's a slump?! It would take me months to read that many books! Even short ones....
