I'm the same. I like to listen to jazz or classical (Einaudi, Beethoven and Chopin especially) if my local cafe is quite noisy. Something that blocks out the external noise but isn't too intrusive on my thoughts.

I haven't heard of that one either. I loved Grave of the Fireflies though.

I've read The Outsider by Camus and I enjoyed that very much. I'll be interested to know what you make of this one.

I just finished a game of XCOM: Enemy Within last night. Great game. Terror from the Deep was first and favourite XCOM game (except when you spent an hour trying to find one more alien who was hiding in the corner).

I understand your criticism and they are all fair points. I've only read three novels by him and the style and characters are quite similar or posses similar traits. I think he may have a certain archetype and sticks to it.

You know I'm not sure I can put it in to words. He just seems to hit an unusual spot. His characters tend to have a certain distance and yet an intimacy with each other that seems uniquely Murakami. There's a wide space that weaves between the characters and yet it carries so much weight. His novels are almost philosophical when it comes to analysing human relationships and the grind of daily life for the troubled soul. Add a slight tint of the surreal, jazz, cats and sex with weird women and a dash of mystery and BOOM, there you go.

Is she really? Makes it even more suspect. Why now after all these years? I think I'll wait for the reviews on this one before I go jumping in. As much as I love Mockingbird I'm skeptical of what this will be like.

I love Norwegian Wood and The Wind-up Bird Chronicle, his last novel not so much. I can imagine a lot of people wouldn't get into Murakami but that's fine. We don't want everyone to like the same thing.

Your boyfriend has good taste I love Futurama. I haven't seen any of the newish ones they did after it was uncancelled though.

Princess Mononoke is good too. Don't worry the video is just a song from the film.

I haven't seen that one either but I remember the controversies about it. I love Porco Rosso, the whole sequence when he's explaining what happened to hi squadron is one of my favourites in cinema.
