  1. Awesome I've read Breakfast of Champions and Mother Night and would recommend either of them.
  2. I loved Slaughterhouse-Five too. I want to read some more Vonnegut this year. *THIS VIDEO CONTAINS SPOILERS* so only watch if you've read Slaughterhouse-Five.
  3. I've been looking forward to this album for a while.
  4. Dreamland for me but Careless Love is a great album too.
  5. I do like the Mamas & Papas version.
  6. I agree, Ella is probably the closest thing we can get to perfection
  7. Love me some Nina. Sorry your mood isn't great
  8. I can't remember where I found it but I would love that on my wall.
  9. That's my problem with TBBT. It just seems lazy stereotypes. I tend to find a lot of american sitcoms very formulaic and repetitive as well but I don't really watch much TV. If you are a proud nerd maybe you should check out The Venture Brothers if you haven't already
  10. No sorry, Babylon 5 is where its at It was OK. Much prefer TNG and DS9. Never really bothered with Enterprise (Sorry Maria and Frankie )
  11. Dave Lamb is the only reason to watch that show Watching: Newcastle v Stoke
  12. Wil Wheaton is a cool guy. His Tabletop show on youtube has made me crave a boardgame session. I used to watch TNG all the time as it was on about the same time we had dinner. TBBT however, not so much.
  13. Well it would have been impolite not to turn up the next day
  14. Twice It was a two night run in Glasgow. One night solo piano with Tim Fein and the other was with the Kronos Quartet doing the live soundtrack to the film Dracula (Bela Lugosi). He's performing in London in April. Would love to go.
  15. I may give him a go. Always looking for new jazz suggestions. I love Coltrane and Ellington's album for reading. I had the pleasure of seeing Philip Glass in concert a few years ago. Sublime. His solo piano works is great as is his work with Violinist Tim Fein. I don't really enjoy much Baroque music as I can't stand the Harpsichord. Terrible tinging device such as it is
  16. That sounds like a big fuss but I hope it's finally resolved. Here's to the nice guy for letting you take your reserved items
  17. It really was. Best thing I ever did. I did a lot while I was over there; Safari at the Ngorogoro crater, Zanzibar, lived with the Maasai for the weekend but it's the teaching and the children I remember most fondly. Really glad I kept a journal while I was there too.
  18. A collection of short stories. Review: Such a disappointment after the wonderful The Old Man and the Sea. The sparse and impactful writing from that book is missing it's latter component. The short stories seem little more than practice and seem to contain little in the way of substance. Most contain the same character in a variety of different situations that are neither interesting or long enough for anything to materialise. One story even read like a shopping list. 'Nick buttoned his shirt. Then he went outside. He saw a bird. The bird was in a tree. Then he flew away.' (Not a direct quote just my own example) I get the impression if you gave this to someone to read but they didn't know who the author was there would be little in the way of praise. My own opinion of course. A lack of detailed prose can be a powerful thing as demonstrated in The Old Man and the Sea and from other books like The Road by Cormac McCarthy but here it's just flat and toneless with only a mere hint that the stories were actually supposed to be about something. I was drawn to this book not only because of the previous book I read but also because I spent a couple of months in Tanzania teaching first aid and I could see Mount Kilimanjaro from my bedroom window so the imagery is a powerful and sentimental one for me. The first story and the title the book is named after is the only one here I deem worthy of reading. Most of the others are between 3 - 5 pages long. It's not complete trash but it feels more like something you would write to get in the mood and flow of writing something else. 2/5
