  1. Wow! Your thread is really well thought out; you clearly put a lot of time and effort into it. I thoroughly enjoyed the Little House series as a child. Like Narnia, it was an old friend that I always turned to. I was hooked on the t.v. show as well. My favorite to this day is Little House in the Big Woods.
  2. Just finished The Girl With All the Gifts and The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend.
  3. I am generally not a horror fan at all, but I just finished The Girl With All the Gifts by M.R. Carey, and it was rather engrossing. It's a horror/dystopian combo -- rather original.
  4. I enjoyed both immensely, but this was one case where I liked the movie better than the book. I have a soft spot for Matt Damon, though.
  5. Thank you! It's nice to get settled a bit.
  6. Hello, again. I haven't been on for over a year, so I thought I'd re-introduce myself. I like quite a broad range of authors and genres, but tend to steer away from horror or overly-sentimental pieces. I like books that are character-driven. I've always been a mood reader, so usually have several books going at once. Now that I'm working so much, I'm happy to read anything on hand, and can barely cobble together enough time to read one and keep it straight, much less the three or four I'd keep going in the past. It's been a rather eventful time. I moved to a new state (I'm from the U.S.) and it's been a difficult transition. When I first moved here, I was rather isolated, so I started a fledgling little book blog to pass the time. It's called littlebookreviews.com if you want to check it out. A few months ago, I started a job that I love, which has been wonderful, but extremely time-consuming. This weekend is the first time in months that I've been able to finish a book. (Happily coinciding with a read-a-thon.) I'm glad that things are settling down and that books are coming back into my life.
  7. Hello. It's been awhile. This weekend was the first time in months that I've had time to pick up a book, and it just so happened to correspond to a read-a-thon weekend. I read The Readers of Broken Wheel Recommend by Katarina Bivald (384 pages) and got a little over 200 pages into The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey.
  8. Nice! It sounds like you've made great progress. I'm settling in to squeeze in a little last-minute reading as the night is still young where I live.
  9. Love TNG! Wil Wheaton was also one of my TV crushes. I'm also a die-hard Battlestar Galactica fan, both old and new. It's good to find a kindred spirit out there.
  10. Any deeper South and I'd be living in the Gulf of Mexico. The neighbors are out getting their pool ready. It seems a bit premature, but I appreciate their optimism.
  11. Don't feel bad! I've been a bit of a slacker this weekend. Friday I read three issues of Threads magazine cover to cover, skimmed through a book on sewing skirts and read half of another book on garments. Saturday, I went to parades and napped. Highly productive. Today I'm alternating between sewing and lazing around on here. Does reading posts count toward my totals?
  12. Words to live by. It's absolutely lovely down here. I have every window in the house flung wide open.
  13. Hello and welcome! This is a lovely place to read. I'm sure you'll get plenty of great recommendations from others on here. Enjoy your books and let us know how they go!
  14. Truly! I was trying to hold off on reading them until I could buy a copy, but patience was not my friend.
  15. I've been a bit behind on my responses. I had to remove some emoticons. Yay! I'm glad you got a copy. I see you're reading and enjoying it! I'm so envious/happy for you getting to hear Matt Haig speak. Enjoy! I hadn't heard of it, so I read a synopsis. It sounds interesting, so I'll likely download some sample chapters. Color me impressed. I'm not a huge Joyce fan, so it's all I could do to get through The Dubliners. I can't imagine tackling Ulysses. Guilty as charged! I read the magazines and 1 1/2 sewing books on Friday. Saturday I was a lazy reader, but a great parade-goer. Today I hope to settle into some reading. Thank you, Marie! Thank you! I brought home A Red Herring Without Mustard, I am Half-Sick of Shadows, Speaking from Among the Bones & The Dead in their Vaulted Arches. A bit of binge reading is in order! Thank you, thank you.
  16. I'm glad you're finding it interesting. I've been a slacked reader this weekend, going to parades and such instead, but I plan to do my re-read of The Giver today.
  17. So...I may or may not be guilty of going to the library and coming home with four Flavia de Luce books, two books from The Giver quartet, two books and three magazines on sewing, a Masha Hamilton that I haven't read, one impulse fiction and a random non-fiction. Good thing it's a read-a-thon weekend.
  18. Beautiful homemade chicken noodle soup. It's so damp and chilly out, so I've been cold all day. This is the perfect dinner for a night like this.
  19. I'm heading off to the library to pick up the rest of the books in The Giver series. Is anyone else ready to start reading this week/weekend?
  20. I just finished The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. Love, love, love. I'll post a review shortly in my book log, but I'd definitely recommend this one.
