  1. Yeah, I was thinking I'd heard it somewhere before too . . . creepy!!
  2. This short story is free for the next three days . . .
  3. Seeing as I harassed Gaia about forgetting to post book pictures on here, I figured I may as well post my own latest acquisitions. These were from the Works (£1.99 each, 3 for £5): And this one comes courtesy of the lovely Tim, who took pity on me for missing the Manchester Gollancz Fest and sent me a signed copy of Steelheart in consolation. Thanks again, Tim!
  4. Thanks Gaia! Just make sure you don't forget next time. Just kidding. Yay for new books and birthday times!!
  5. Ooh, for fantasy you might also try the Craft sequence by Max Gladstone, which starts with Three Parts Dead. I wasn't totally overwhelmed by it myself, but the world is certainly unique, and I've heard the series gets better and better. You might also like Chris Wooding's Ketty Jay series. I've fairly recently discovered The Expanse, a SF series by James S.A. Corey. The first book is called Leviathan Wakes, and it's a lot of fun. Also, I can't recommend the authors Patrick Rothfuss and Steven Erikson highly enough.
  6. For fantasy, you could try Prince of Thorns by Mark Lawrence (Broken Empire series), or The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie (First Law trilogy).
  7. You should check out the TV series on Youtube - me and my sister both LOVE it. Do you have any plans for your birthday?
  8. Horrible Histories is awesome. Hope you had a lovely birthday! Where abouts in the UK were you?
  9. Ooh, the third Shattered Sea book was my favourite.
  10. Me too! I had it on my wishlist to buy, but it arrived earlier this week as one of my 'years supply of Tor books' prizes.
  11. I've just seen a couple of very nice sketches when flicking through book 3.
  12. It really is a lovely book. I think Steve bought it for Kindle AND in paperback because he couldn't resist the cover.
  13. I thought you were taking the pi$$. Sorry. You'll be able to let me know about the second one soon enough!
  14. I don't like getting books from the library - I get stressed out about having to return them by a certain date. I read that Mary Stewart series a few years ago. Hope you enjoy The Crystal Cave. *goes off to read some Gemmell* *Maybe*
  15. </sarcasm> Serpents and basilisks are just different kinds of dragons, so my point stands.
  16. Ah, shame about Temeraire, but on the upside at least you've saved me from buying it. Hope you enjoy whichever book you read next! Daughter of the Empire, perhaps?
