  1. Hi all, I am starting this topic on a relatively unknown Romanian author - Mircea Eliade. Firstly, I would be interested to know whether there is anybody that has heard of this illustrious man / has read any of his works. If so, what are your notes / opinions? I will shortly be composing a short summary of the highlights that are worth making a note of about the author. To give you an idea of my opinion of this man: if I were given a chance to be able to communicate with somebody from the world beyond (if that is the case), it would be very difficult for me to choose between Buddha and Mircea Eliade. Hopefully I will manage to make of this topic an attractive and interesting piece of information / media. Looking forward to hearing from my fellow readers. Best regards, IndyPhimaA
  2. Hi Roy, The first Philosophy work I've read was "Of the Social Contract, Or Principles of Political Right" (or simply "The Social Contract") by Jean Jacques Rousseau. It's short and to the point. I've found it to be a very easy read and it was definitely to my understanding; after which I followed the writings of Philisophers such as Immanuel Kant, Friedrich Nietzsche. Next up: Voltaire Go for it - once your attraction towards the subject increases, you will then possibily like to continue with Mathematical Philosophy (by modern authors, such as Stephen Hartmann) and Logic. Best of luck and give us an update. Best regards, IndyPhimaA
  3. Hi everybody, My three favourite classics are (so far): - War and Peace, by Lev Tolstoy - Marriage in Heaven, by Mircea Eliade (I strongly recommend that you read ANY of his novels / novellas - an absolute genius) - A Tale of Two Cities, by Charles Dickens Best regards, IndyPhimaA
  4. Hi saintmark, Great that you're interested. In fact, after further research this morning, I've come accross Books 1 - 5 translated into English (by Eduardo Berdugo): - The Pardaillan Volume I - The Pardaillan Volume II The Knight-Errand - The Pardaillan Volume III Aqua Toffana - The Pardaillan Volume IV Quietus - The Pardaillan Volume V The Gibbet (I believe that, with a more thorough search, ebooks for all of them can be found). As for the French titles: - Les Pardaillan - L'Épopée d'Amour - La Fausta - Fausta Viancue - Pardaillan et Fausta - Les Amours du Chico - Le Fils de Pardaillan - Le Trésor de Fausta - Le Fin de Pardaillan - Le Fin de Fausta Best regards, IndyPhimaA
  5. Written at the beginning of the 20th Century, the tale is of one knight-errand, "the last true chevalier of the Middle Ages" - Jean de Padaillan. The story is set between 1553 - 1614 in France (with an occasional visit to a foreign country), making Dumas' D'Artagnan Romances a perfect continuation, both from a temporal and spatial viewpoint. Never have I felt such an admiration and love for a fictional character than for Pardaillan, who is the absolute model of manhood, bravery and elegance. Introducing a female descendant of the Borgias - rich, powerful, dangerous... Don't let its lack of popularity fool you - it is an amazing read. Hoping that it will shortly be translated into English. So, anyone read it? IndyPhimaA
  6. Hello everybody! Have any of you read Michel Zévaco's Les Pardaillan series (10 books, 11 volumes)? As there is only one published translation into English (of the first novel - vol. I & II), I would assume that not many of you have had the chance yet - unless we have French & Romanian speakers on the forum, which I am sure of. I will be very shortly writing a short description of the series and, in the meantime, I look forward to conversing on the topic. Best regards, IndyPhimaA
