  1. Hello Bebesyy This place seems to have lots of recommendation threads and everyone seems really helpful - hope you get the advice you need.
  2. Hello and welcome, I'm also new here. I haven't had the chance to read the Song of Ice and Fire series yet but it's on my TBR list.
  3. Thank you bobblybear, wordsgood, athena and mrsmac! Mrsmac - Indeed Turriff is very near, probably about 15-20 miles from me. Nice enough place but I haven't been often. I believe I have some relatives in Canada, not sure where and don't think I've ever met them either (great aunt/uncle etc), always been a place I would like to visit.
  4. Read A Day At The Office by Matt Dunn. A short read that started off with some amusing observations that quickly became very predictable and unfulfilling. Currently reading Survivor by Chuck Palahniuk. All good so far, I love the little asides he peppers his books with. Franny and Zooey by J D Salinger is up next.
  5. Hello ands thanks everyone Chaliepud - a mix of everything but mostly tend towards sci-fi, humour and transgressional. Favourite authors are Chuck Palahniuk, Nick Hornby and Philip K Dick
  6. I really enjoyed the book. I've always thought of it as being about the pearls of obsession and becoming what you pursue. Daisy represents everything Gatsby wants to become, rich, attractive, popular. In his idealised obsession with her he creates a world in which he can become her equal. As the story unfolds it become more apparent that Daisy is without substance, she is shallow, flakey, easily led and so on. Gatsby by the end is revealed as a deceitful construct; a mirror that reflects the wealth and charm of others. When all is said and done he has become Daisy's equal. Just my 2p.
  7. Hello everyone I'm based in the tropical metropolis that is Aberdeen. Loved reading since early childhood, however my friends don't really share this passion. I am looking forward to reading recommendations from like minded people.
