  1. Did that jogging work? I'm finding it very irritating to walk so slow as Mabel then tends to follow her nose more. If I can walk faster she doesn't have too much time to sniff every single thing that grows. Better for her and better for me. Plus my furface loves to snack on unhealthy droppings of other dogs, cats, etc. Walking faster keeps her from being able to do this. So I may just try your little tactic and see how she fairs.

  2. Yes, it is very annoying when Real Life gets in the way of reading. I think my problem is also that I want to do so many things at once. Crafting, cooking, gardening, and READING. Thank goodness for audio books - I can do a bit of listening/reading whilst doing some of the above. Two birds with one stone, so to speak.

  3. I used to read 3 to 4 books a week when I was a youthful girl. Now, however, I read about 1 book every two weeks. I could read more if I didn't have to do housework, walk the dog, do the garden, laundry, ect, ect....Not to mention my own pt work. Then there is the television. I love the summer when the tv holds my attention less and less and I go and read under the veranda (when the weather allows naturally). No distractions of the tv being watched by hubby.

  4. I am finding it hard to walk 'slower' with my Mabel. She has gotten older very quickly since she has been sick. If I go any slower I shall have to crawl. :blush2:  And, when I stop, so does she (instead of catching up with me, who is waiting paitently for her).

  5. Today I ordered 'And The Mountains Echoed' by Khaled Hosseini from the library.  It is due out on the 21st May and I was going to buy it but decided I would prefer to wait for the paperback so it will match my copies of The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns.. I'm desperately hoping it will be as good as they were, early reviews have been good.

I've also read both of his books. I should also get a copy of his newest book. I'd be interested in knowing what everyone else thinks of "And The Mountains Echoed".

  6. I did, having bought one especially! :blush2:  We did so many things in so few days it would have been hard to keep proper track. Additionally my evening diary writing captured not only events, but our reactions and feelings to them.

Are you a travel diarist Miss Mabel?

Well, I thought I would be...we were on a trip in America and I started out really well writing everything in my selfmade travel diary and adding tidbits but didn't keep it up as I thought I would. I was really into it too. So...I guess deep down I am not a 'real' travel diarist. Unfortunately, we don't travel enough to try again. I'm glad to hear you were able to do so.

  7. Yesterday I finished the book Contagious by Scott Sigler. It is actually the 2nd book of his, but it stood alone well. I was looking up podcasts and found that he also has the book in podcast version. But, I had already bought the book at a second hand shop. It's a good book about the invasion of an alien pollen that penitrates the humans and the fight to kill it before it takes control of the Earth.

I enjoyed the read. I love a good SF story.

  8. Your welcome. Hope you can fine one to your liking. I think he also wrote the book that the tv series V was based on. Although, personally, I thought the tv serie (this time) more interesting than the book. He has better ones out there. I think the book was called Invasion.

  9. A memory plant is a lovely idea. We've two of those in our garden where are beloved cats are buried. We put a large flat stone on top of them before putting the dirt and plant on top so that if we need to dig again we will know where they are. I'd hate to disturb them again. The garden is too small to do the same with our dog though, so we shall have to follow in your steps Charlie. So to speak.

Mabel is doing better and getting her quirky sense of humor back. She is even walking a bit longer with a bit more spunk to her step. So, we are hopeful this is going the good path.

  10. Today had to go to the dentist (bah, humbug) to get my root canal finished. Plus that same tooth decided to have a piece break off of it. Therefore, that too had to be repaired. I am wondering just how much of my molar is actually my own now since it's been repaired twice from breakage and a root canal. It may eventually need a crown. BUT NOT NoW! My jaw  is sore from being open for over an hour.

I've been doing a bit of crafting this weekend and it did me good. Which means that I was listening to any books and not actually reading them.

My dog is finally getting over her illness (it seems). But  I am not going to rejoice too soon, as it might jinx it.

Yesterday was a lovely day and hubby and I went for a 30km bike ride. Yes, I had some aches and pains, but it was lovely.
