  1. Some of you may have seen me raving about the books I have recently been reading about Kristie Cook. I came across the first in the series, Promise, when looking for some free ebooks on my Kobo and immediately became engrossed in it. Here's a little synopsis: An epic fantasy tale of good versus evil, the Soul Savers Series brings everything you love about the paranormal genre with the author's own twists and unique mythology. Follow the story of Alexis Ames as she discovers true love, learns about her heritage and what her future holds and begins to take on her life's purpose. With a total of seven full-length novels along with companion novellas and stories, Kristie Cook plans to keep you on the edge of your seat for some time to come. And, from the first novel: When Alexis Ames is attacked by creatures that can’t be real, she decides it’s time she learns who she really is, with or without the help of her mother, who guards their family’s secrets closely. After meeting the inhumanly attractive, multi-talented Tristan Knight, however, Alexis retreats behind her façade of normalcy…until she discovers he’s not exactly normal either. Then their secrets begin to unravel. Their union brings hope and promise to her family’s secret society, the Angels’ army, and to the future of mankind. But it also incites a dangerous pursuit by the enemy – Satan’s minions and Tristan’s creators. After all, Alexis and Tristan are a match made in Heaven and in Hell. So basically, it is your typical teenage/YA novel with fantasy and romance and supernatural beings. Bit typical considering all the YA novels are somehow based around this at the moment but I really love the series. I haven't been able to put down the books. I finished the second today starting at around 12:30 and couldn't put it down. By the time I did look up it was like 2pm, I thought it had been longer!
  2. I finished Purpose by Kristie Cook and now I really really really need to read the last two books! I would put this on par with Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instrument books with Clary and Jace.
  3. This Promise book by Kristie Cook is really good. I'm like obsessed with it. It's one of those YA novels that really tugs at your heart strings (well, for me personally!), I'm a sucker for YA romance novels!
  4. I just cooked some chips in the deep fat frier and put some salt and ketchup on top for my lunch
  5. Tonight I am having pork medallions with mash potatoes, veg and gravy
  6. Well, considering I don't watch the more serious acting that is done on the BBC I wouldn't have known that. xD
  7. I finished Heart of Darkness. I was so happy when it was over. Was alright towards the end but still hated reading it. I decided to download a free ebook called Promise. It's a YA novel. Felt I needed some light reading after that classic.
  8. I love Reginald Hill. Admittedly, I've only read 2 of his books, The Stranger House and The Woodcutter. But I've loved them both.
  9. I started reading Heart of Darkness today, and to be honest, I'm not that into it. It's hard to read and get into and I keep getting confused over what is going on. I'm perservering through though. It feels a bit easier come the 3rd chapter but I still don't think it will get higher than 3* on Goodreads.
  10. That's true. I didn't know Smith or Tennant or Ecclestone before I watched Doctor Who. It's probably someone up and coming in the acting world.
  11. I really liked Matt Smith! Chris O'Dowd tweeted last night that there had been rumours of him becoming the Doctor, but I don't think that would work. I can't really think of anyone that would be worthwhile.
  12. Thanks guys We'd been talking about it for a week or so, so I'm kind of used to the idea. It's for the best as well. I applied to about 5 jobs yesterday so I'm hoping something might come of that
  13. I finished The Stranger House last night. It was a bit annoying getting into with the weird sentence structure but as the novel progressed I didn't notice anything wrong with his sentences, as much, as I was really getting into the novel.
  14. I spent the day up on the Hoe today as it was so good. Was only up their for a couple of hours but spent the time reading and trying to get some degree of sun haha. I've also spent today applying to jobs as I didn't get the Lidl job and me and my boyfriend are splitting up, so he is leaving within the coming weeks. Having a job means I can help contribute towards rent etc.
  15. Hi Andrew. I've only read Reamde by Neil Stephenson, but that was really good.
  16. We actually have a 3DS in the house now. My boyfriend exchanged his Xbox for one on Gumtree. I got to try it out before he got home. I used the 3D feature but for some reason I can't get on with it. Even wearing glasses it literally feels like my eyes are blurry so when I get one I definitely won't be using the feature that much unless I can really get used to it. Definitely still gonna buy my own though as I do really want AC:NL and I've played every Pokemon game (don't count mystery dungeon etc) and I can't miss out on X and Y.
  17. Definitely agree. But you can say that YA are a bit samey, but we're still gripped by them time and again. I remember Malory Towers more than St Clare's, but I'm pretty sure I read them both and I think they're virtually the same in terms of them both being in a boarding school and getting upto mischief.
  18. So I'm just over 100 pages into The Stranger House and the main characters are slowly joining into each others stories. It's definitely not as good as The Woodcutter. With The Woodcutter, I immediately felt that this book was good and should be made into a film. Whereas The Stranger House feels a bit clumpy at times with his writing style. I find myself re-reading some of the sentences as they don't really make sense to me by the way he has structured them. Thankfully, this isn't disrupting the flow of the novel and I'm still getting into it.
  19. I've never read the Bridget Jones books but I've loved the movies. So I'm looking forward to the film!
