  1. How many books do you own, do you know that?
  2. Welcome here ! It's nice to meet a teacher, it's not a profession I could do due to my disability and what not but I think it's a nice thing to hear about from other people (does that make sense?), I like to hear about people's experiences with children. THird grade, what age will those children be? (I'm from the Netherlands, we have a different school system) You read a lot of genres . I also don't like westerns or inspirational / Christian books. Nice to hear about some of your favourite classic authors, many of those you mentioned I have a book of on the shelf but not read yet. For some reason I find the classics a bit daunting but I'd love to read more of them so I'll get around to them eventually. I mean, many people who are younger than me (I'm 27) have read them and understood them so I think it should be okay (hopefully). Feel free to post your reading progress in the Your Book Activity thread and to make a reading log in the Reading Lists / Blogs section if you want to. I'd love to read what you think of the books you read or to talk more about books. (I do love to talk about books..) I love the fantasy genre for example (among several other genres), so I'd love to hear some of your recommendations / thoughts (we have a topic about it in the Horror / Supernatural / Fantasy / Sci-Fi section, come to think of it I don't believe I've posted much it in but not sure..). I wish you a lot of fun here and with reading!
  3. I hope you like it, I liked it a lot !
  4. It's very sad .. I haven't read any of his books but I might do so at some point, I've heard good things about them. Very sad he died .
  5. I'm reading The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce (as well as a For Dummies book on the Kindle). I'm 100+ pages into the book and it's really enjoyable.
  6. If you like the show, you'll like the book too I think! I love the book more than the show (mainly because of the fact that there's less violence and nudity in it). The book explains some things better than the show does, in my opinion. It has some extra scenes not shown in the show that really add to it. I hope you like the book (both of you!).
  7. I'm glad to hear they're good! Thanks .
  8. Taking a photo of a haul is a great idea. I might have to do that too when I have one next (of tree books) .
  9. Nice! I only know the Jules Verne book, I have it on the shelf but not read yet. I have one book by Ken Follet, Fall of Giants, I haven't read it yet and don't know much about the author. Have you read other books by this author? I haven't heard much about the other books, nice that you got some nice editions .
  10. I've edited the third post in this thread to include a list of all my books. It's sorted at the beginning based upon how I entered them into the database, in February. After that it's based on date of purchase (with the exception of a few that I forgot to add before). I plan to add books there as I purchase them (and post here), though I don't know how long I'll keep it up XD. This morning I purchased three books on the Kindle by Jo Nesbo/. Jo Nesbo/ - Harry Hole 3: The Redbreast Jo Nesbo/ - Harry Hole 4: Nemesis Jo Nesbo/; Don Bartlett - Harry Hole 5: The Devil's Star I haven't done much reading lately, though I've been reading bits on my Kindle in Understanding Autism for Dummies by Stephen Shore and Linda G. Rastelli. So far it's interesting but I did skip some bits that I found not interesting. I plan to start The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce soon, but it depends on how much time I spend with my boyfriend, how stressed I am and what I feel like doing in my spare time (when I'm not working on university things). I've been working on my presentation for university, the final one, in three weeks it'll all be over and I should hopefully be less stressed and feel better. EDIT: A while ago I also downloaded some free ebooks from Project Gutenberg, I haven't sorted through them yet though but when I do (in a while) I might have some more (free) books to add to the database. I also plan on adding my children's and teenager books sometime (at least the ones that are easily accessible atm).
  11. By the looks of it you have some awesome books there! I look forward to see the list and what you think of them when you read them. I see some Peter F. Hamilton books and a book by Tad Williams, have you read other books by these authors? What about David and Leigh Eddings (I have the exact same edition of The Treasured Ones btw, from what I can see), Raymond E. Feist and Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson? I also see a book by Danielle Steel, I own two books by her but haven't read them yet, have you read any books by this author? I also see a book by Ian Irvine, I haven't read most of the books I own by him (I own a few of them), do you like them or have you not read anything by him yet? Ok, that's enough rambling and drooling over the picture! There may be more I recognise but I don't want to overflow you with questions XD .
  12. I don't know if this is a book for me (I've put it on the wishlist though as it sounds good), but I really enjoyed reading your review!
  13. x I look forward to hear what you think of this. It's on my shelf as are a few other books by Anita Shreve. I haven't read any of them yet, I bought them because I've heard some good things about them.
  14. x Thank you ! @ Hayley Awww, he is so cute!
  15. Wow .. good luck with the letter and proceedings! It really sounds like a tough and stupid situation (thanks for telling me more about it).
  16. Wow, I see! That is a lot of money. I have the prequels too, so far I've only read one David Eddings & Leigh Eddings book so far but I own a lot of them XD. I read The Redemption of Althalus, that was pretty good. I did read some of the books back when I was a teenager in the library in Dutch, but I don't remember much about it.
  17. Welcome here ! What kind of books do you like to read?
  18. Yesterday we saw Message in a Bottle (after the book by Nicholas Sparks). I really loved the film, so I'll have to buy the book sometime soon!
  19. @ talismann Wow, that all sounds pretty bad! @ emelee I'm glad you had a nice celebration. Here things are going well, my (short) presentation at university went relatively well. Now I have to work on the long presentation. I've been having fun with my boyfriend.
  20. Eleonora, I hope your dog feels better soon. Emelee, I hope yours feels better soon too. wordsgood, I'm glad to hear all is well with your pets!
  21. I heard about it, it's great news!
  22. x I own this book but haven't read it yet. x x Do you mean Debt of Bones? I own it and bought it for a normal price (once in Dutch and once in English). I've only read a few books of the saga so far. My brother has read most of them and really liked them. My sister has read a lot of them too and liked them as well. x x I own these books but haven't read them yet. Leigh Eddings is listed on some of David Eddings' books but not on others.
  23. I have Virginia Andrews classed as YA because it seems to be written for that age as well as have characters of that age. I mainly read these books when I was a teenager, and all were read in Dutch. Recently I bought some Virgina Andrews books in English, I look forward to see how that goes. Anyway.. here are the ones I've read (most of these I own though not all): Dollanganger series Cutler series Casteel series Logan series Orphans series Wildflowers series Shooting Stars Here are parts of series I've read: De Beers (first three books) Hudson (book four) Landry (first two books) I quite liked her books when I read them as a teenager though I found after a while that a lot of the books had similar plots and similar plot twists. Sometimes I could predict what would happen.
